Bas ek pehar hee baaki hai 

Jeevan haathon say phisal gaya 

Bas khaali mutthi baaki hai 

Sab kuchh paaya is jeevan mein

Phir bhi ichchhayen baaki hain

Duniya say ham nay kya paaya

Yeh lekhaa - jokhaa bahut hua 

is jag nay ham say kya paaya 

Bas ye gananaayen baaki hain

Is bhaag-daud ki duniya mein 

Ham ko ik pal ka hosh nahin 

Vaisay to jeevan sukh mayi hai 

Par phir bhi kyon santosh nahin?

Kya yoon hee jeevan beetega?

Kya yoon hee saansen band hongi? 

Auron ki peedaa dekh samajh

Kab apni aankhen num hongi? 

Man kay antar mein kahin chhipay

Three parts of life are gone - 

Only one is left

Life has slipped out of the hands

just an empty fist is left

Have found everything in life

Yet - in the heart - the desires are still left

What did we get from the world,

Numerous times these calculations have been done 

What did this world gain from us -

this account is still left (to be settled).

          in this hustle and bustle of the world

          we don't realize for a moment -

          that life seems comfortable and joyful - 

          yet we do not feel satisfied and content.

Will life always go on like this?

Will it finally come to an end in this way too?

Will our eyes ever get moist 

when we see the suffering of others?

Hidden somewhere deep in the heart

The answer to this question is still left (unanswered).

 

        My happiness, My dreams

          My children, My own (people and interests) - 

Throughout life, this has been the only consideration. 

          Before - it gets dark - 

          Before dusk falls 

in a distant settlement - 

One lamp to be lit -  is still left.
