Earning a place and respect depends on personal qualities

                      "Padam hi Sarvatra Gunai-Nirdheeyatay"
Meaning:
Personal qualities determine one’s place, status, and prestige everywhere.

Earning a place in society and winning love and respect in people’s hearts depend entirely on one’s personal qualities.
Every action—good or bad—leaves an impression on the hearts of others.
Whether our deeds bring benefit or cause harm and suffering, each leaves a mark on society.
Good deeds generate admiration and inspiration, while harmful actions invite criticism and disdain.

 At times, the misconduct of a few individuals tarnishes the image of an entire community
or group— their entire society may be viewed with suspicion and hatred.
And this is natural. As the saying goes, "one fish pollutes the pond.

But it is also true that the bad deeds of a few individuals may not cause as much harm as the silence of good and wise people.
History reveals that the silence of good and wise people often causes more damage than the misdeeds of a few.
Remaining neutral towards an ideology that breeds hatred for others or silently supporting wrongdoing is as blameworthy as committing the wrong itself.
When people of wisdom and conscience fail to speak out against wrong doctrines and do not stand up against falsehood and injustice, they inadvertently allow greater harm to take root in the future.

As the Vedas proclaim:
                  “Satyameva Jayate — Naanritam”
Support the truth - not falsehood.
                                         " Rajan Sachdeva "

Jyotir-Aatmni (Light is within the Self)

              "Jyotir-Aatmni Na-Anyatra"
       (Mahabharata - Shanti Parva 326/32)

Meaning:
The light is within your own self — not elsewhere.

The great sage and learned author of the Mahabharat proclaims that the ray of light is not to be found outside or in any other place.
It is within you.

Therefore, light—happiness and peace—should not be sought externally, or outside.
It should be discovered within ourselves.
Inspiration and guidance may indeed come from others.
Ultimately, it is only by turning inward, observing ourselves objectively with honesty, and striving to walk the path of truth that life attains true fulfillment and prosperity.

Desire: The Insatiable Fire - The Bottomless Pot

          Aavritam Gyanam etena Gyanino Nityavairina
          Kamrupen Kaunteya Dushpurena analen cha
                                    (Bhagavad Geeta 3: 39)

"O Kaunteya (Arjun, son of Kunti), Gyan is covered by this eternal enemy — the insatiable desire, which is never satisfied and burns like fire.
The more fuel you give, the stronger it burns.”

The knowledge of even the most discerning Gyanis / Saints gets covered by this perpetual enemy that comes in the form of insatiable desire, which is never satisfied and continually burns like fire.
Desire, by its nature, is never content.
The more we feed it, the hungrier it becomes — the more fuel we give, the more fiercely it blazes.

Desire is like a vessel without a bottom —
No matter how much we pour into it, it always feels empty.
It's like a whisper in the ear, "If I get just a little more, I’ll be happy."
But that “little more” never ends.
It always keeps moving another step ahead - always out of reach.

The ancient masters knew this well.
Therefore, Buddha said,
"Craving is the root of all suffering."

Lord Krishna says:
“Desire is an insatiable fire — it consumes endlessly and is never satisfied.”

The holy scriptures warn us:
“Lakh karori bandh na baandhay - paray pareri soojhay”
Even millions or billions cannot satisfy our hunger for more, and put a stop to it.
We always want more and more and more. Not only in terms of wealth or possessions, but also in terms of power and authority, and having control over others.
Such desires overpower the discernment of even the Brahm Gyanis and tempt them for their own gratification.
True peace begins not by fulfilling every desire, but by understanding their nature — and letting them go.
It’s the Simplicity that brings contentment and joy - not acquiring and collecting unlimited wealth or possessions.
Giving up as much as possible and turning toward the divine is what brings joy and bliss.
                                             ‘Rajan Sachdeva’

Nitya-vairinaa—by the perpetual enemy
Kaam roopena—in the form of desires

                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
यहां आदि शंकराचार्य - जीवन की अस्थिरता को समझाने के लिए, कमल के पत्ते पर पड़ी पानी की बूंदों का एक उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण दे रहे हैं।
जल की बूँदें कमल के पत्ते पर होते हुए भी पत्ते से अलग होती हैं - उस पर चिपकती नहीं हैं।
यह इतनी अस्थिर होती हैं कि जरा से हवा के झोंके से भी फिसल कर गिर सकती हैं।
इसी तरह हमारा जीवन भी अस्थिर और अप्रत्याशित है।
जिस प्रकार हल्की सी हलचल या हवा के झोंके से कमल के पत्ते पर बैठी पानी की एक बूंद आसानी से नीचे गिर सकती है -
उसी तरह किसी बीमारी, स्ट्रोक, दिल के दौरे या किसी दुर्घटना के कारण जीवन भी अप्रत्याशित रुप में शरीर से विदा हो सकता है।
हम जीवन की स्थिरता पर भरोसा नहीं कर सकते।
इसे पकड़ कर नहीं रख सकते।
हम नहीं जानते कि अगले पल में क्या होने वाला है।
इसलिए, जो भी समय हमारे पास है - उसका उपयोग सही ढंग से करना चाहिए।
उसका यथायोग्य लाभ लेना चाहिए।
                विधि व्याधि अभिमान ग्रस्तम् - लोकं शोक हतं च समस्तम्
अर्थात यह भी समझ लें कि सारा संसार ही अभिमान और रोग एवं दु:ख  का शिकार है।
प्रकृति के इस नियम से कोई भी अछूता नहीं है।
जिसने भी जन्म लिया है वह उपरोक्त लक्षणों से ग्रस्त है।
शरीर हमेशा या अंत तक पूरी तरह से स्वस्थ नहीं रह सकता - जीवन हमेशा सुखी और आनंदमयी नहीं रहता।
मानसिक स्तर पर भी - हर व्यक्ति के मन में कुछ न कुछ अहंकार और उत्कृष्टता का भाव मौजूद होता है जिसकी वजह से अक्सर कुंठा एवं ईर्ष्या  का भाव भी भी बना रहता है ।
हर इंसान किसी न किसी दुःख और चिंता से ग्रसित रहता है।
कोई भी व्यक्ति हर प्रकार से पूर्ण नहीं होता।
सभी गुरुओं, ऋषियों और संतों- महात्माओं की तरह, आदि शंकराचार्य भी हमें याद दिला रहे हैं कि यह संसार क्षणभंगुर है -- अर्थात जीवन अप्रत्याशित है।
पीड़ा, शोक और दुःख हर व्यक्ति के जीवन का हिस्सा है।
वह हमें जीवन की वास्तविकता का एहसास करवा के - अपनी प्राथमिकताओं को निर्धारित करने और समय का सही उपयोग करने के लिए समझा रहे हैं।
जीवन में लक्ष्य स्पष्ट होने पर ही संतुष्टि संभव है।
जीवन का लक्ष्य प्राप्त हो जाने पर ही मन में संतोष होना संभव है।
और जीवन के उद्देश्य को जानने और समझने और उसे अपने जीवन में उतारने का समय अभी और इसी वक़्त है।
अक़्सर हम अप्रिय या कठिन कार्यों को कुछ देर के लिए स्थगित कर देते हैं।
ऐसा सोच लेते हैं कि अभी तो बहुत समय पड़ा है - इस काम को फिर कभी कर लेंगे।
शंकराचार्य कहते हैं कि जीवन अतिशय-चपलम - अत्यंत अस्थिर और अप्रत्याशित है।
इसलिए, जो काम अभी करना चाहिए उसमे ढ़ील नहीं करनी चाहिए - उसे स्थगित नहीं करना चाहिए।
संत कबीर जी भी यही कहते हैं:
         कल करे सो आज कर - आज करे सो अब
         पल में प्रलय होगी बहुरि करेगा कब?
अर्थात:
जो कुछ भी करना चाहते हो वो आज ही और अभी कर लो
यदि अगले पल ही अंत आ जाए तो कैसे करेंगे?
इसलिए, यदि कुछ अच्छा और उद्देश्यपूर्ण काम करना चाहते हैं - तो उसे जल्दी ही कर लेना चाहिए - प्रतीक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए।
Nalinīdalagata-jalamatitaralaṁ (Life is unpredictable like a adroplet of water)
Nalinīdalagata-jalam atitaralaṁ tadvajjīvitam atiśaya-capalam
Viddhi vyādhy-abhimāna-grastaṁ lokaṁ śoka-hataṁ ca samastam
                                             (Bhaja Govindam – Verse 4)
Breakdown:
Nalini Dalagat Jalam Ati Taralam – Just as water on a lotus leaf is quite unstable
Tadvad Jivitam Atishaya Chapalam – So too is life, highly unpredictable and fleeting
Viddhi Vyadhi Abhiman Grastam – Know that life is afflicted by disease, suffering, and a sense of false ego
Lokam Shok Hatam Cha Samastam – And that the whole world is full of sorrow and grief
                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To illustrate the instability and impermanence of life, Adi Shankaracharya offers the powerful image of drops of water trembling on a lotus leaf. A water droplet does not stay on a lotus leaf for long. It is so unstable that even the slightest gust of wind can cause it to slide off.
Similarly, life is just as fragile and unpredictable.

Just as a water droplet can slip off at the smallest disturbance, life too can come to an unexpected end — through illness, a stroke, a heart attack, or an accident.
We cannot take life for granted. We cannot hold on to it forever.
We don’t even know what the next moment may bring.
Therefore, there is no time to waste.
The message, or rather, warning, is quite clear - that whatever time we do have must be used wisely.

The second part of the shloka states:
"Viddhi Vyadhi Abhiman Grastam - Lokam Shok Hatam Cha Samastam."

Understand that the whole world is caught in the grip of disease and ego, of sorrow and grief. No one is exempt from these truths.
Every being that is born is prone to suffering. The body is never completely free from illness, pain, and suffering, nor does it remain unchanged throughout life.

At the mental level, pride and ego linger in every mind. Everyone carries some degree of self-importance, and everyone experiences personal loss, grief, or sorrow.
No one is absolutely perfect. No one is flawless in every way or in every field.

Like other sages, Adi Shankaracharya also reminds us of the fleeting nature of the world — that life is uncertain and that pain, grief, and sorrow are inherent parts of existence.
The whole world is afflicted by disease, pride, and suffering. No one is exempt.

Therefore, he urges us to discover the truth of life, set our priorities, and use our time wisely.
Satisfaction is only possible when life has a clear purpose —
And fulfillment comes when that purpose is accomplished.
The time to discover and live that purpose is now.

We often delay what is difficult or unpleasant.
We think we have plenty of time, and we can do it later.
But Shankaracharya reminds us that life is Atishaya-Chapalam — extremely unpredictable.
Therefore, we should not postpone what must be done.

Sant Guru Kabir ji also expresses the same thought:
                   "Kal karay so aaj kar, aaj kare so ab
                    Pal mein pralaya hoyegi, bahuri karega kab?"
Meaning:
What you plan to do tomorrow, do today.
What you plan to do today, do now.
If the end comes in the next moment —
When will you have the chance to act?

Therefore, if there is something good and purposeful you wish to do, do not delay.
The time is now.

What is Truly ours?

Someone else gave us birth.
Our name was given by others.
We were raised and nurtured by others.
Our education was provided by someone else.
Work or employment also came from others.
Our knowledge came from others.
The recognition, titles, and honors were all given by others.
Respect and fame were granted by others.
Our first and final bath—both are performed by others.
And in the end, others will carry us to the cremation ground.
After death, our property will be divided by others.

Then what exactly are we so proud of?
“I do everything, I did all…
It’s all mine... Everything happens because of me.”
Why are we always stuck in this endless loop of I, me, and mine?

                “Ka tay kaanta kaste putrah – Sansaaroyamateeva Vichitrah
                  Kasya Tvam va kut aayaatah – Tattvam chintaya tad iha bhraatah”
                                 (Adi Shankaracharya - Bhaja Govindam, Verse 8)

Meaning:
This world indeed is strange — Whose wife? Whose son?
Who is the wife? Who is the son?
O brother! Before all this, pause and think:
 'Who are you — and where have you come from?'

But rarely do we ask these questions.
Caught in the false pride of “I” and “mine,” We forget to look within.
We fail to see ourselves clearly and miss the chance to know our True Self -
To know who we truly are.

                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ऋग्वेद का यह महावाक्य मानव जीवन का एक संतुलित दृष्टिकोण प्रस्तुत करता है।
इस महा वाक्य के अनुसार मानव जीवन के दो उद्देश्य हैं
पहला, आत्म-साक्षात्कार एवं मोक्ष के लिए प्रयास करना
और दूसरा जगत हिताय - अर्थात दूसरों के कल्याण के लिए - जगत की बेहतरी और उत्थान के लिए काम करना।
इस मंत्र के अनुसार जीवन में इन दोनों लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करना आवश्यक है।
वेद और उपनिषद हमें इन दो रास्तों में से किसी एक को चुनने के लिए नहीं कहते -
बल्कि इन दोनों पर एक साथ चलने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं।
आध्यात्मिक विकास का अर्थ संसार का त्याग नहीं - बल्कि जागरुकता और करुणा के साथ जीवन जीना है।
मोक्ष, या मुक्ति का अर्थ है आंतरिक स्वतंत्रता  - अर्थात अहंकार, स्वार्थ और भय के बंधन से मुक्ति।
जब तक मन पर अहंकार और स्वार्थ हावी है - जब तक हम केवल स्व-केंद्रित इच्छाओं से बंधे हैं -
जब तक हम भय की क़ैद में ग्रस्त हैं - तब तक न तो हम सही मायने में स्वतंत्र अथवा मुक्त हैं
और न ही हम दूसरों के लिए कोई सार्थक और भलाई का काम करने में सक्षम हैं।
इन आंतरिक अवरोधों को दूर करके ही हम सच्ची शांति का अनुभव कर सकते हैं।
और उस आंतरिक शांति से ही निस्वार्थ भाव से जगत की सेवा करने की शक्ति प्रवाहित होती है।
वेद और उपनिषद हमे मोक्ष प्राप्ति के साथ साथ दूसरों के लिए प्रकाश और सेवा का स्रोत बनने की भी प्रेरणा देते हैं।
Aatmano Moksh-Jagat Hitaye (Self liberation & welfare of others)
                     Aatmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitaaye Cha
                                                    (Rigveda)
"Work for the liberation of the self and for the betterment of the world."
This profound verse from the Rigveda presents a balanced vision of human life.
It states that our existence has two essential and inseparable purposes:
First, to strive for self-realization or liberation (moksha), and
Second, to work for the welfare of others, for the betterment and upliftment of the world (jagat hitaya).
The Vedas and Upanishads inspire us to pursue both of these goals.
The ancient wisdom of the Vedas and Upanishads does not ask us to choose between these two paths—they inspire us to walk both simultaneously. Spiritual growth is not a retreat from the world, but a deeper engagement with it, rooted in awareness and compassion.
Moksha, or liberation, refers to inner freedom—freedom from the bondage of ego, selfishness, and fear.
It is the awakening from the illusion that we are isolated, limited beings.
True liberation is not simply an escape from suffering, but a state where one transcends narrow self-interest and lives in inner harmony.
As long as the mind is dominated by ego and selfishness - self-centered desires - as long as we live in the prisons of fear, we are not truly free. Nor are we capable of bringing meaningful good to others.
Only when we begin to dissolve these inner barriers can we experience true peace. And from that inner peace flows the power to serve the world selflessly and wisely.
Proclamation of the Vedas and Upanishads is to seek freedom - not only for oneself - but also to become a source of light and service for others.
