Yesterday, I sat down to play Sitar -
As soon as the sound of the Tanpura filled the room -
Some sentiments arose in my mind
I tried to capture those sentiments in the form of a poem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Geet mein Sangeet mein Tu hi hai Sur aur Taal mein
Naad tera hi goonjtaa hai Tamburay kay taar mein
Thaap mein Tablay kee aur Sitar ki jhankaar mein
Geet mein Sangeet mein Tu hi hai Sur aur Taal mein
Tuhi Aalaap taan mein - Tu hee hai Rag-Maal mein
Jal mein Thal mein Van Upavan mein Tu Dharti Aakaash mein
Sooraj Chaand Sitaaron mein - Tu hee Timir, Prakaash mein
Kan kan mein hai Soorat teri har pattay har daali mein
Phoolon mein kaliyon mein Tu hi Tu bagiya kay maali mein
Gandh mein, Sugandh mein - har pushp kee Suvaas mein
Umang mein, Tarang mein, Tu hi jeevan kee aas mein
Aavaas mein nivaas mein - Tu des mein pravaas mein
Har jagah ik Tu hi Tu hai - door mein aur paas mein
Dhadkanon mein dil ki Tu hai aatay jaatay Svaas mein
Tu hee meri Soch mein - Tu hee mere ehsaas mein
Gyaan mein Tu Dhyaan mein Tu hee Sumiran Satsang mein
Tu hee bhajan keertan - Tu hee kathaa prasang mein
Tu hi Pooja Archana - Tu hi Shraddhaa Vishvaas mein
Tu Mandir kee Praarthna- Gurdvaaray kee Ardaas mein
Masjid ki Aazaan mein Tu hee Haj Rozay Ramdaan mein
Girija-ghar kay Cross mein Tu hi - Tu Teerath Ishnaan mein
Tathaagat mein - Teerthankar mein - Paryushan Upvaas mein
Maala Tasbi, Yagya Havan mein Tu hi Yog-abhyaas mein
Har ik jaa mein Tu hi Tu hai - Tu hi sab ka Saar hai
Tujh say sab utpann hua Tu hee Sab ka Aadhaar hai
Antar Baahar Tu hi Tu hai - Teraa sakal pasaara hai
Teri hi hai jyoti sabhi mein Tujh say jag ujiyaara hai
Tu hi Allaah Ram Vaaheguru - Tu Eishvar Bhagvaan hai
Naamon kay chakkar mein lekin ulajh gayaa insaan hai
Naam Roop Aakaar say jis nay Paray Tumhen Pehchaana hai
Us Jan nay hee 'Rajan' jag mein Param Satya ko jaana hai
Translation/Essence
Your sound echoes in the strings of the Tambura.
In the beat of Tabla and in the chime of Sitar
In the song, in the music - in the tone and rhythm
You are the one in Aalap & Tan - and in Ragmaala.
In the water, in the land - in the forest, in the grove,
You are in the earth and in the sky.
In the sun, moon, and stars -
You are in the darkness - You are in the light.
Your presence is in every single particle -
in every leaf - in every branch.
You are in the buds and flowers -
and in the Gardner too.
In the smell, in the aroma - in the fragrance of every flower
In spirit, in every wave - you are in the hope of life.
In the dwelling- in residence -
in staying and in the migration
You are present everywhere -
in places far and near.
You are in the beats of the heart, in the coming and going breath
You are the one in my thoughts - You are the one in my mind.
You are in Gyana - You are in Dhyana (meditation)
You are in Sumiran and Satsang.
You are in the Bhajan Kirtan (Devotional songs) -
You are in spiritual, motivational discourses.
You are in the Pooja-Archana (worship) -
You are in devotion and faith
You are in the prayers of the Temple -
in the Ardaas of the Gurdwaras
You are in the calling of the Mosque -
in the Hajj, Rozay (fastings), and Ramadan
You are in the Cross of the Church -
You are in the pilgrimage and sacred baths.
In Tathagat* - In Tirthankara* -
In Paryushan* and in fastings
In Mala and Tasbi (rosaries) -
You are the one in Yagya-Havan and in Yoga practices too.
It's You in every being - You are the essence of all
Everything originated from you - You are the basis of all.
You are inside and outside - You are all-pervading.
You are light in everyone - with your light shines the world.
You are Allah - Ram - Waheguru - God, Eishwar, Bhagvaan, and all.
But in the mumbo-jumbo of the names, people are confused - entrapped and divided.
Only those who see you beyond Name and Form -
have come to know the Ultimate Truth in the world.
