We are quick to criticize and slow to appreciate

Usually, we are too quick to criticize others and too slow to appreciate them.

When someone does or says something good, we hardly appreciate it.
Often, we don't even talk about it or mention it to others.
And if we really like what they said and do want to talk about it with others - then we hide their name to avoid praising them.

But if someone says or does something that we don't like, we immediately start to question and criticize them.
We start gossiping about it and spreading it around.
"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye,
but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"
                                                    (New Testament…Luke: 41)

Similarly, a 15th-century saint, Sant Ren ji (Pronounced as 'Rain) - says:
"But Beej sum Par-Avgun Jin ko kar to man Meru dikhaavay
Meru sum apno avagun Tin ko kar tu But-Beej  janaavay
Eem Santan 'Ren' Kahay man syon Par-Avagun Dhaamp tab-hi Sukh Paavay"*

English translation:
Other's faults, even if they are as small as a Banyan seed (Size of a mustard seed), Oh my mind! You present them like a mountain to others.
Your own faults, even if they are as big as a mountain; you regard them as small as a mustard seed.
Thus says Sant 'Ren' - that by hiding - ignoring, and not propagating other's faults and shortcomings, you can find peace & happiness, oh mind."

Instead of criticizing and blaming others all the time, we should look into our own faults and shortcomings and try to improve ourselves.
Because, in the end - it's our own thoughts and actions that we are responsible for - not for others.
