Ganesh Visarjan - A Beautiful and Profound Concept

These days, a great festival known as Ganesh Visarjan is being celebrated in Maharashtra, India.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, beautifully crafted images of Lord Ganesha were installed, worshipped, and treated with great love, devotion, and reverence.
Now, those same images are carried in joyful processions and immersed in rivers or lakes.
At first glance, this may seem strange, contradictory, or even absurd.
Only a few days ago, people worshipped these images with deep reverence and devotion, and now they take them to the water and let them sink.
Why would people lovingly worship something and then willingly let it go?
If we look only at the outward ritual, it may indeed appear odd.
But if we pause and try to understand the philosophical thought behind it, we may discover a beautiful and profound message.

We know that everything that comes into existence will eventually cease to exist.
Whatever is born will die one day.
Whatever is created will eventually be destroyed or transformed.
Our bodies, buildings, possessions, relationships, civilizations, and even the entire universe - everything is impermanent and subject to change.
What remains beyond these changing forms is the deeper, universal Reality known as Brahm,  Brahman, or Niraakar Ishvar (God).

From this perspective, the physical image of Lord Ganesh is not the ultimate Reality itself.
It is a symbol. A form created to help the mind to relate and focus on the Divine.
The form is useful, meaningful, and worthy of reverence, but the form or image itself is not permanent.
So, after worshipping the form or image for some time, they willingly let it go.

                                 Visarjan is a reminder
Love the form, respect the form, learn from it.
But do not become attached to the form.

             Another beautiful tradition conveys a remarkably similar message.
Several years ago, I witnessed something like this at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
A few Buddhist monks were invited to participate in a seminar.
During their visit, they painstakingly created an extraordinarily beautiful Sand Mandala, using countless grains of colored sand. The intricate patterns were amazing. People came from all around to admire their spectacular artwork.
However, after several days of painstaking work, the monks deliberately destroyed it.
I heard that the University staff and others wanted that magnificent artwork to remain intact. But the monks said that, according to their tradition, the Sand Mandala was not meant to be preserved.
In a spectacular ceremony, they danced over it and swept away that beautiful creation.
            The message was simple yet profound:
Everything created is temporary. And yet, beauty does not become meaningless simply because it does not last forever.
In fact, its impermanence may be precisely what makes us appreciate it more deeply.
The destruction of the Mandala was not an act of sadness or rejection.
It celebrated impermanence and practiced letting go willingly and happily.

                 Ganesh Visarjan carries the same philosophical message.
Devotees do not take the image to the water out of disrespect.
It’s quite the opposite.
The procession is often filled with music, singing, dancing, celebration, and devotion.
There is joy rather than mourning.
After loving and worshipping the form for some time, they are happily willing to let it go.
That is a profound lesson for life.
We often spend our lives trying to hold on to everything we love - our possessions, our relationships, our youth, our status, our achievements, our memories, and even our ideas of how life should be.
But life keeps reminding us that nothing in the physical world is permanent.
Loving or adoring something does not necessarily mean possessing it forever.
And letting go does not mean that what we loved and worshipped was meaningless.
This is one of the deeper messages hidden in the Ganesh Visarjan celebration.
That the image is temporary, but the principle it represents is not.
The form disappears, but the understanding, love, and devotion remain.

Ganesh Visarjan is about accepting impermanence and letting go gracefully when the time comes.
It reminds us that endings are not necessarily something to fear or mourn. They are part of the natural rhythm of existence.
It's a reminder that creation and dissolution, arrival and departure, birth and death, getting and letting go - all are parts of the cycle of life.
We may worship the Divine in a particular form, but ultimately we must release it, reminding ourselves that the Divine is not confined to any form.

And when we can let go of something with the same love and gratitude with which we once received and welcomed it, we may have understood a very important truth of existence.
That every form returns to the elements.
        Only the Divine remains.

                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                          व्यक्तिगत एवं आध्यात्मिक प्रतीक
आध्यात्मिक संदर्भ में, मन अथवा चेतना को इंद्रियों (पाँच ज्ञानेन्द्रियाँ और पाँच कर्मेन्द्रियाँ) का स्वामी माना जाता है।
गणेश के अलग-अलग अंग और उनके आस-पास की चीज़ें सत्य की खोज करने वाले जिज्ञासुओं के लिए गहरे प्रतीकात्मक सन्देश हैं।
हाथी एक विशालकाय जीव है।
कुत्ते अक़्सर भौंक कर अपनी उपस्थिति का एहसास दिलाते रहते हैं।  लेकिन हाथी चलते हुए कभी शोर नहीं करता। वह अपनी मस्त चाल में चलता रहता है।  उसकी विशालता ही उसकी उपस्थिति का प्रकटाव है।
इसी तरह आध्यात्मिक व्यक्ति भी अपनी योग्यता एवं गुणों का शोर नहीं करता। उसके हृदय और स्वभाव की विशालता ही उसे प्रकट करती है।
 बड़ा सिर अथवा विशाल मस्तक बुद्धिमता एवं विवेक अर्थात असीम ज्ञान और विचार-शक्ति का प्रतीक है, जो आध्यात्मिक व्यक्ति की सोचने विचारने की विशाल क्षमता को दर्शाता है।
                                         छोटा मुँह और बड़े कान
वाक (बोलने) और श्रवण (सुनने) की अवधारणाओं को दर्शाते हैं।
वे बताते हैं कि ज्ञानी या साधक कम बोलता है। वह अधिकतर मौन रहता है और विद्वानों एवं ज्ञानियों द्वारा दी जाने वाली शिक्षाओं को ज़्यादा सुनता है।
उनकी छोटी आँखें एकाग्रता और एक ही लक्ष्य पर पूर्ण रुप से ध्यान लगाने का संकेत देती हैं। उन्हें दूसरों की कमियाँ देखने की बजाय अपने लक्ष्य पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने का संकेत देती हैं। वह हर बात पर उद्वेलित हो कर प्रतिक्रिया नहीं करते। वह न तो किसी की बुराई करता है और न ही उनका बुरा करने का प्रयास करता है।
                     एक दंत :
वह केवल शुभ एवं सकारात्मक विचारों को ग्रहण करते हैं।
बड़े पेट का अर्थ है पचाने की क्षमता।
जीवन सुख और दुख का मिश्रण है।
ज्ञानी व्यक्ति जीवन की हर अच्छी और बुरी परिस्थिति को शांति से संभाल और पचा सकता है।
                                   गणेश जी के चार हाथ
एक सुदृढ़ मन हर तरह से इंद्रियों पर नियंत्रण करके आध्यात्मिकता के मार्ग पर आगे बढ़ता रहता है।
एक हाथ में वे रस्सी पकड़े हुए हैं, जो स्वयं को हर प्रकार की नकारात्मकता से ऊपर उठकर आत्म-ज्ञान और मुक्ति के परम लक्ष्य की ओर ले जाने की क्षमता को दिखाती है।
दूसरे हाथ में कुल्हाड़ी है - जो नश्वर संसार के मोह-माया के बंधन को काटने का प्रतीक है।
तीसरे हाथ में वे मिठाइयों से भरा कटोरा पकड़े हुए हैं-  अर्थात उन्हें मीठा पसंद है।  जिसका अर्थ है कि वे केवल मिठास - यानी अच्छाई और सकारात्मकता को ही अपनाते हैं और बनाए रखते हैं जो आध्यात्मिक विकास के लिए अत्यावश्यक है। वो शुभ लेते हैं और शुभ ही बांटते हैं।
उनका चौथा हाथ आशीर्वाद देने वाली मुद्रा में दिखाया जाता है, जो अभय का  प्रतीक है।
ज्ञानी व्यक्ति गलत धारणाओं, विचारों और आडंबरों के भय से मुक्त होता है। वह अपनी आध्यात्मिक यात्रा भय के कारण नहीं करता। उसके मन में केवल सत्य जानने की जिज्ञासा होती है। वह गलत धारणाओं से न तो स्वयं डरता है और न ही दूसरों के मन में गलत धारणाओं का डर पैदा करके उन्हें डराता है।
                                               पाँव के नीचे चूहा
चूहा चंचलता और लोभ का प्रतीक है।
मनुष्य की भी स्वाभाविक प्रवृत्ति है - चंचलता एवं लोभ।
गणेश अर्थात ज्ञानी मन, लोभ रुपी चूहे को अपने नीचे दबाकर अर्थात अपने नियंत्रण में रखते हैं।
वे ईमानदारी से अपनी आजीविका कमाते हैं। धोखाधड़ी से नहीं। और न ही किसी का धन अथवा हक़ छीनने की कोशिश करते हैं। वे सादगी और पवित्रता का जीवन जीते हैं।
                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Greatness of Lord Krishna

           Jo gareeb son hit karen dhanya ‘Rahim’ tay log
             Kahaan Sudama bapuro Krishn mitaai jog
                                 (Raheem)

Great are those, says Rahim, who show affection and kindness to the poor and helpless.
Consider the disparity between humble Sudama and Lord Krishna, the King of Dwarka.
Was poor Sudama truly a match for Krishna's friendship?
                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most people change after acquiring wealth, power, and status.
Once they attain authority, they seek to associate only with the wealthy and influential, often looking down upon their old, ordinary, and impoverished friends and relatives, viewing any continued association with them as beneath their dignity.
However, great are those who remain unchanged despite gaining wealth and power, continuing to cherish their old friends and relatives with the same affection as before.
There was no longer any equality between Krishna and Sudama.
Krishna had become a king, whereas Sudama remained impoverished. Could he possibly be considered Krishna's equal in any way?
And yet, Krishna did not forget his childhood friend Sudama, nor did his attitude toward him change.
Even after becoming a king, he honored their old friendship and affection just as he always had.
Krishna did not pity Sudama merely because he was poor and helpless, nor did he ask him to wait outside at the main gate of the palace. Instead, he ran barefoot to welcome him personally. He brought him inside, seated him on his own throne, and washed Sudama's mud-covered feet with his own hands.
This is true greatness; this is what constitutes nobility of spirit.
Lord Krishna's greatness did not stem from being a mighty king.
His greatness lies in the fact that, despite being a Maharaja, he embraced his impoverished friend in public without any hesitation. He seated him on a high throne and ensured that Sudama never felt inferior because of the disparity in their status. He discreetly helped him with wealth and clothing, never making him feel obligated or indebted.
Krishna's greatness also does not stem merely from his role as the Jagat-Guru (Universal Teacher) or the fact that he had millions of followers.
Rather, it lies in the fact that even after Arjuna became his disciple after receiving the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna continued to serve as his charioteer.
Krishna saw no indignity in serving as a charioteer for his own disciple.
While Krishna imparted profound philosophies - such as Sankhya Shastra, Yoga, Gyan, and Bhakti Yoga through the Bhagavad  Gita, he also inspired the world through his actions.
By embodying humility and a gentle nature, he demonstrated how one can practice Karma Yoga while remaining ever humble.
शिक्षक दिवस और डॉ: सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन जयंती
आज भारत के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डॉ. एस. राधाकृष्णन की स्मृति में 'शिक्षक दिवस' मनाया जा रहा है।
1962 में, जब राधाकृष्णन भारत के राष्ट्रपति थे, तो उनके जन्मदिन को 'राधाकृष्णन दिवस' के रुप में मनाने का प्रस्ताव रखा गया।
लेकिन उन्होंने मना कर दिया और कहा: "इसे मेरे जन्मदिन के तौर पर मनाने के बजाय, अगर इस दिन को 'शिक्षक दिवस' के रुप में मनाया जाए तो यह मेरे लिए गर्व की बात होगी।"
डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन (5 सितंबर, 1888 - 17 अप्रैल, 1975) एक महान दार्शनिक और शिक्षक थे। शिक्षा और भारतीय दर्शन में उनका योगदान अद्वितीय है। वे वर्तमान काल  में भारतीय और पश्चिमी दर्शन के सबसे बड़े विद्वानों में से एक थे। उन्होंने भारतीय दर्शन और वेदांत पर कई किताबें लिखीं, जिनमें भगवद गीता, उपनिषद और ब्रह्म सूत्र पर लिखी गई टीकाएँ शामिल हैं।
एक महान शिक्षक और दार्शनिक होने के अलावा, डॉ. राधाकृष्णन बहुत ही हंसमुख और हाजिरजवाब इंसान भी थे!!
उनके बारे में इंटरनेट पर खोजते समय, मुझे उनके दिए गए कुछ बेहतरीन और मजेदार जवाब मिले।
                       *************
जब ग्रीस के राजा राजकीय यात्रा पर भारत आए तो राष्ट्रपति राधाकृष्णन ने पालम हवाई अड्डे पर उनका स्वागत किया।
"महामहिम... आप ग्रीस के पहले ऐसे राजा हैं जो हमारे निमंत्रण पर भारत के मेहमान बन कर आए हैं!!!!
वरना सिकंदर तो बिना निमंत्रण ही आ गया था।"
                                      *************
 एक बार चाय पीते समय विंस्टन चर्चिल ने डॉ. राधाकृष्णन से कहा:
'Sugar' (शूगर) एकमात्र ऐसा अंग्रेजी शब्द है जिसमें "स" शब्द का उच्चारण "श " की तरह होता है!!
डॉ. राधाकृष्णन ने मजाक में कहा: "Are you Sure? (क्या आप श्योर हैं?)
                                     *************
एक बार विंस्टन चर्चिल ने डॉ. राधाकृष्णन के सम्मान में एक राजकीय भोज (State Banquet) का आयोजन किया।
डॉ. राधाकृष्णन ने खाना खाने से पहले अपने हाथ धोए और हाथ से खाना खाया, जबकि चर्चिल ने चम्मच और कांटे (spoons and forks) का इस्तेमाल किया..!!
चर्चिल ने डॉ. राधाकृष्णन को चम्मच और कांटे का इस्तेमाल करने की सलाह दी और कहा कि चम्मच और कांटे ज़्यादा साफ़-सुथरे (hygienic) होते हैं।
डॉ. राधाकृष्णन ने जवाब दिया...
"हो सकता है कि ये चम्मच किसी और ने भी इस्तेमाल किये हों लेकिन खाना खाने के लिए मेरे हाथ का इस्तेमाल कोई और नहीं कर सकता, इसलिए मेरा हाथ आपके इस्तेमाल किए जाने वाले किसी भी चम्मच या कांटे से ज़्यादा स्वच्छ और साफ़-सुथरा है।"
                              *** *************
विदेश यात्रा के दौरान, दर्शकों में से एक व्यक्ति ने डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन से एक सवाल पूछा।
"स्टेशन मास्टर और स्कूल मास्टर में क्या फ़र्क है?"
यह सवाल बेमतलब का था और थोड़ा बदतमीज़ी भरा भी!
लेकिन, बुद्धिमान डॉ. राधाकृष्णन ने शांति से जवाब दिया...
"स्टेशन मास्टर ट्रेन का चालन करता है, जबकि स्कूल मास्टर दिमाग को ट्रेन (प्रशिक्षित) करता है!!"
Happy Teacher's Day & Brilliant Humor of Dr. Radhakrishnan
Today, 'Teacher's Day' is being celebrated all over India in memory of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan - India's first Vice-President and then the President of India.
In 1962, when Radhakrishnan was serving as the President of India, his birthday was proposed to be celebrated as 'Radhakrishnan Day'.
However, he declined, saying: "Instead of celebrating it as my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if this day is observed as Teachers' Day."
Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan (September 5, 1888- April 17, 1975) was a great philosopher and teacher. His contributions to education and Indian philosophy are exemplary. He was one of the greatest scholars of Indian and Western philosophies in recent times. He wrote several volumes on Indian philosophies and Vedanta, including commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and the Brahma Sutras.
Besides being a great Teacher and  Philosopher, Dr. Radhakrishnan was also an exceptionally "witty man"!!
While searching the web about him, I found some brilliant, humorous answers he gave.
                                                               *************
When the King of Greece came to India on a State visit
President Radhakrishnan welcomed him at the Palam Airport.
"Your Majesty... you are the first King of Greece to come to India 'on invitation '!!!!
The last time, Alexander the Great came uninvited."
                             *************
Winston Churchill, while having a cup of tea, said to Dr. Radhakrishnan:
Sugar is the only English word where "s" is pronounced as "sh"!!
Dr. Radhakrishnan jested: "Are you sure?"
                                    *** *************
Once Winston Churchill hosted a State Banquet in honor of Dr. Radhakrishnan.
Dr. Radhakrishnan washed his hands before eating and used his hands to eat the food, while Churchill used Spoons and Forks..!!
Churchill could not stop himself from advising Dr. Radhakrishnan to use a spoon and fork, saying that they were more hygienic.
 Dr. Radhakrishnan replied..
Since nobody can use my hand to eat, my hand is more hygienic than any Spoon or Fork you use."
                              *** *************
On one of his travels abroad, a member of the audience asked Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan a question.
"  What's the difference between a Station Master and a School Master?"
The question was irrelevant and bordering on impertinent, too!
However, the brilliant Dr. Radhakrishnan replied calmly...
" While a Station Master minds the Train, a School Master trains the mind!!"
Happy Janmashtami - Celebrating the Jagat Guru Krishna Beyond the Rituals
Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, who is regarded not only as an incarnation of the Divine but also as Jagat Guru - the Teacher of the World.
For millions of people, Krishna is a beloved deity.
The Bhagavad Gita, spoken by Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, is one of the world's most influential spiritual texts that influenced and shaped later 'religions' and Dharmas of India, including Buddhism, Sikhism, and their numerous branches.
It is not merely a religious scripture; it is a profound exploration of Dharma, Karma, Gyan (knowledge), devotion, duty, detachment, and the nature of the Self. Lord Krishna's message is remarkably relevant even today.
He teaches that we cannot always control life's circumstances, but we can control how we respond.
That we must perform our responsibilities sincerely, without becoming enslaved by the desire for a specific result.
We must learn to rise above fear, attachment, ego, and selfishness and discover the deeper truth within ourselves.
Millions of people around the world acknowledge and honor this day in many different ways - with prayers, devotional songs, fasting, celebrations, and religious ceremonies. But beyond the stories of his life, his childhood, his relationships, and his divine manifestations lies something even more profound: his teachings.
The greatest celebration and tribute to Lord Krishna would be to do more than remember his birth. It would be to learn, understand, and apply his teachings in our own lives.
The true celebration of the Gurus or great teachers is not merely to worship them, but to walk the path they showed us.
                            "Rajan Sachdeva"
Duryodhana chose the Narayani Sena (Lord Krishna's army) while Arjuna chose the unarmed Krishna.
One chose the means, and the other chose the Lord.
We, too, face the same choice.
Whom shall we choose?
The means or the end?
शुभ जन्माष्टमी: भगवान कृष्ण और भगवद गीता
जन्माष्टमी भगवान कृष्ण के जन्मदिन के रुप में मनाई जाती है, जिन्हें न केवल ईश्वर का अवतार बल्कि 'जगद्गुरु' भी माना जाता है।
लाखों लोगों के लिए कृष्ण एक प्रिय आराध्य देवता हैं।
कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्ध के मैदान में भगवान कृष्ण द्वारा भगवद गीता के रुप में दिया गया अर्जुन को उपदेश - पूरी दुनिया में एक अत्यंत प्रभावशाली आध्यात्मिक ग्रन्थ माना जाता  है। जिसने भारत के सभी धर्मों और पंथों - जिनमें बौद्ध धर्म, सिख धर्म और उनकी कई शाखाएं शामिल हैं - को प्रभावित किया और उन्हें आकार दिया।
भगवद गीता केवल एक धार्मिक ग्रंथ नहीं है; यह धर्म, कर्म, ज्ञान, भक्ति, कर्तव्य, अनासक्ति और आत्मा के स्वरुप की गहरी खोज से सम्बन्धित दर्शन शास्त्र एवं महाग्रंथ है और जिस का संदेश आज के समय में भी बहुत प्रासंगिक है।
भगवद गीता सिखाती है कि हम हमेशा अपने जीवन की और आसपास की परिस्थितियों को नियंत्रित नहीं कर सकते, लेकिन हम उन पर अपनी प्रतिक्रिया को नियंत्रित कर सकते हैं।
और हमें किसी विशेष परिणाम की इच्छा के गुलाम बने बिना अपनी जिम्मेदारियों को ईमानदारी से निभाना चाहिए।
भगवद गीता सिखाती है कि हमें भय, अनुचित मोह, अहंकार और स्वार्थ से ऊपर उठ कर  अपने भीतर के गहरे सत्य की खोज करनी चाहिए।
दुनिया भर में करोड़ों लोग जन्माष्टमी के पर्व को अलग-अलग तरीकों से मनाते और सम्मानित करते हैं - प्रार्थनाओं, भक्ति गीतों, उपवास, उत्सवों और धार्मिक समारोहों के माध्यम से। लेकिन उनके जीवन चरित्र, बचपन के खेल, रिश्तों और उनके दिव्य रूपों की कथा कहानियों से परे है: उनकी गहन शिक्षाएं।
भगवान कृष्ण को श्रद्धांजलि देने के लिए केवल उनके जन्म को याद करने से कहीं बढ़कर आवश्यक है उनकी शिक्षाओं को सीखना, समझना और उन्हें अपने जीवन में अपनाना।
गुरुओं, अवतारों एवं महान शिक्षकों की सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि केवल उनकी पूजा करना नहीं है, बल्कि उनके दिखाए रास्ते पर चलना है।
Story of a mouse with a profound hidden lesson
Story of a mouse with a profound hidden lesson
A mouse looked through a crack in the wall and saw the farmer and his wife open a package.
What food might this contain? The mouse wondered
But he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning:
There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The chicken clucked and scratched,
raised her head, and said,
'Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me.
I cannot be bothered by it.'
The mouse turned to the pig and told him,
'There is a mousetrap in the house!
The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray.
Be assured you will be in my prayers.'
The mouse turned to the goat and said
'There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The goat said, 'Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's none of my concern.
So, the mouse returned to the house,
head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house --
like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.
In the darkness, she did not see that it was a venomous snake whose tail was caught in
the trap.
The snake bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital,
and she returned home with a fever.
The doctor said You can treat the fever with
fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's fever continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
The farmer's wife did not get well;
She died.
So many people came for her funeral;
the farmer had the goat slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his
crack in the wall with great sadness.
So, the next time you hear someone
is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember ----
      When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.
We are all involved in this journey called life.
We must keep an eye out for one another
and make an extra effort to help one another.
REMEMBER. . . . .
EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;
OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.
One of the best things to hold onto in this world is
"FRIENDS".
कहानी एक चूहे की - और उसमें छिपा एक गहरा संदेश
एक शिक्षाप्रद कहानी - एक चूहा और उसके साथी
एक चूहे ने दीवार की दरार से देखा कि किसान और उसकी पत्नी एक डिब्बा खोल रहे थे।
चूहे ने सोचा - - -'शायद इसमें कोई खाने की चीज़ हो?'
लेकिन उसे यह जानकर बहुत दुख हुआ कि वह चूहेदानी थी - चूहे को मारने के लिए क्लैम्प वाला ट्रैप।
वो भाग कर खेत में गया और चिल्ला चिल्ला कर चेतावनी देने लगा
'घर में चूहेदानी लाई गई है!
घर में चूहेदानी है!'
मुर्गी ने कुड़कुड़ाते हुए अपना सिर उठाया और कहा,
'चूहे राजा, मैं समझ सकती हूँ कि यह तुम्हारे लिए बहुत चिंता की बात है, लेकिन इससे मुझे कोई फ़र्क नहीं पड़ता। मैं इस के लिए परेशान नहीं हो सकती।'
फिर वो चूहा सुअर के पास गया और उससे कहा,
'घर में चूहेदानी लाई गई है!
घर में चूहेदानी है!'
सुअर ने हमदर्दी  दिखाते हुए कहा, 'मुझे बहुत अफ़सोस है कि तुम उसमे फंस के मर सकते हो, लेकिन मैं तुम्हारे लिए प्रार्थना करने के अलावा और कुछ नहीं कर सकता।
यकीन रखिए, आप मेरी दुआओं में शामिल रहेंगे।'
फिर चूहा बकरी के पास गया और कहा,
'घर में चूहेदानी लाई गई है!
बकरी ने कहा, ' भई तुम्हारे लिए तो ये बहुत बुरी ख़बर है, लेकिन इससे मेरा कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। इसलिए मुझे ये सब मत सुनाओ।'
सब की बातें सुन कर चूहा निराश होकर, सिर झुकाकर वापिस घर लौट आया।
वो समझ गया कि उसे अकेले ही किसान की चूहेदानी का सामना करना पड़ेगा।
रात को पूरे घर में एक ज़ोरदार आवाज़ सुनाई दी
जैसे चूहेदानी ने अपना शिकार पकड़ लिया हो।
किसान की पत्नी देखने के लिए दौड़ी।
लेकिन अंधेरे में, उसे यह दिखाई नहीं दिया कि वह चूहा नहीं बल्कि एक ज़हरीला साँप था जिसकी पूँछ चूहेदानी में फँस गई थी। छटपटाते हुए साँप ने किसान की पत्नी को काट लिया।
किसान ने डॉक्टर को बुलाया।
डॉक्टर ने कहा कि ताज़े चिकन सूप से बुख़ार का इलाज किया जा सकता है।
इसलिए किसान चिकन सूप की मुख्य सामग्री लाने के लिए एक बड़ा चाक़ू लेकर लेकर खेत में गया और चिकन सूप तैयार किया।
लेकिन उसकी पत्नी ठीक नहीं हुई। दोस्त और पड़ोसी उसके पास बैठने के लिए आने लगे।
किसान ने सुअर को मरवा के सब के लिए भोजन तैयार करवाया।
लेकिन किसान की पत्नी ठीक नहीं हुई और दूसरे दिन मर गई।
उसके अंतिम संस्कार में बहुत से लोग आए; किसान ने उन सभी के लिए मांस का इंतज़ाम करने के लिए बकरी को कटवा दिया।
चूहा दीवार की दरार में बैठा बहुत उदासी के साथ यह सब देखता रह गया।
इसलिए मित्रो -- अगली बार जब आप सुनें कि कोई साथी या पड़ोसी परेशानी का सामना कर रहा है और सोचें कि इससे आपका कोई लेना-देना नहीं है, तो याद रखें ----
जब हममें से किसी एक पर भी खतरा आता है, तो हम सभी खतरे में होते हैं।
हम सभी ज़िंदगी के इस सफ़र में शामिल हैं।
हमें अपने लोगों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए और एक-दूसरे की सहायता करने का प्रयत्न करना  चाहिए।
हम सब एक दूसरे  के जीवन का एक ज़रूरी हिस्सा हैं।
हम सब की ज़िंदगी एक-दूसरे के साथ किसी न किसी कारण से जुड़ी हुई है।
याद रखें. . . . .
इस संसार में सबसे उत्तम चीज़ों में से एक है - मित्र, सम्बन्धी, एवं सहयोगी।
Old man and a Cafe
              He ordered the Cheapest Coffee Every Day and Sat for Three Hours
I run a small café on the corner of Maple and Third.
It’s not fancy. Just a few wooden tables, warm lighting, and the kind of place where regulars feel like family.
That’s why I noticed him the first day he walked in.
He was older — maybe late seventies.
His coat was worn at the sleeves, his shoes scuffed.
He walked slowly but with dignity.
He ordered the cheapest thing on the menu: a small black coffee.
Then he sat at the table near the window.
For three hours.
He didn’t scroll on a phone. Didn’t read a book.
He just sat there, occasionally watching people pass by outside.
The second day, he came again.
Same coffee.
Same table.
Same three hours.
By the end of the week, some customers began whispering.
“He’s taking up space.”
“If he’s only buying coffee, he shouldn’t sit that long.”
“Is he homeless?”
But something about him didn’t feel intrusive.
He always said thank you. Always cleaned his table before leaving.
Always left a few coins as a tip — even when I could tell that coffee was probably stretching his budget.
So I let him stay.
One afternoon, when I brought his coffee, I added an extra slice of bread.
He looked up at me.
“I didn’t order this,” he said gently.
“It’s on the house,” I replied.
He hesitated — then nodded. “Thank you.”
The next week, I added a small bowl of soup.
Then sometimes dessert.
He never asked for anything more than that coffee.
He never complained.
He just sat quietly, like the café was the only place he felt safe.
Over time, I learned his name was Walter.
His wife had passed two years earlier.
“I don’t like the house when it’s quiet,”
 He once told me. “Here, there’s life.”
That sentence stayed with me.
He wasn’t coming for food.
He was coming for noise. For warmth. For the feeling of not being alone.
Then one day, he didn’t show up.
I told myself maybe he was sick.
The next day, still nothing.
A week passed.
Then two.
I caught myself glancing at the door every afternoon at exactly 2:15 p.m. — the time he always walked in.
A month later, a woman about my age entered the café.
She looked around like she was searching for something.
“Are you the owner?” she asked.
I nodded.
“My father used to come here. Walter.”
My stomach dropped.
“He hasn’t been in for a while,” I said quietly.
She smiled sadly.
“He passed away last month.”
The words hit harder than I expected.
“I’m so sorry,” I said.
“He talked about this place constantly,” she continued. “He called it his ‘second living room.’”
She reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope.
“He left this for you.”
My hands trembled slightly as I opened it.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
It read:
To the kind café owner,
You may not realize this, but you gave me more than coffee. After my wife died, the days became very long. I didn’t want to burden my daughter. I didn’t want her to see how lonely I was.
Your café gave me something to wake up for. The extra bread, the soup — I knew it wasn’t random. You saw me. At my age, that matters more than anything.
Thank you for letting an old man take up space.
— Walter
There was also a small check.
Not a huge amount, but more than he had ever spent in my café.
“For the kindness fund,” his daughter said softly.
 “He wanted you to use it to help someone else who might need a place to sit.”
I had to turn away for a moment to steady myself.
After she left, I walked to the window table — his table.
The chair was empty.
But it didn’t feel empty.
The next week, I put up a small sign near that window:
“If you need a warm place to sit, you’re welcome here.”
No minimum purchase required.
Since then, a few people have taken that seat.
A college student studying between jobs.
A widow who brings knitting.
A man who just needed quiet.
And every time I bring them coffee — sometimes with a little extra bread — I think of Walter.
He came in every day and ordered the cheapest thing on the menu.
Some people thought he was taking up space.
But he taught me something simple and powerful:
Sometimes the most valuable thing you can give someone isn’t food.
It’s permission to not feel alone.
And sometimes, the quietest customers leave the loudest impact.
Simplicity brings purity and humility
Many people often ask me about Bhapa Ram Chand Ji.
What was he like?
What was his nature?
In my opinion, Bhapa Ram Chand Ji’s greatest virtues were his simplicity, naturalness, and straightforwardness.
Because of these very qualities, he would win everyone’s heart.
There was great simplicity in his way of living and eating habits.
With just two sets of clothes in a bag slung over his shoulder, he would often set out alone on preaching tours lasting fifteen to twenty days.
Whoever met him would be so deeply impressed by his simplicity, ease, humility, and gentle nature that they would bow before him in respect.
Simplicity keeps the mind light, free, and grounded.
A simple heart is filled with noble virtues.
Purity, humility, and spirituality will naturally develop if one’s lifestyle is simple.
To make our lives better, and as peaceful and blissful as Bhapa Ji’s, we too should strive to imbibe in our lives the qualities of simplicity, sincerity, naturalness, and straightforwardness - just like him.
सादगी और सहजता से मन में पवित्रता और नम्रता आती है
बहुत से लोग अक़्सर मुझ से भापा राम चंद जी के बारे में पूछते रहते हैं।
वो कैसे थे? उनका स्वभाव कैसा था?
मेरी समझ के अनुसार - भापा राम चंद जी के महानतम गुण थे -
उनकी सादगी, सहजता और स्पष्टवादिता।
अपने इन्ही गुणों के कारण वो हर एक का दिल जीत लेते थे।
उनके रहन सहन एवं खान पान में अत्यंत सादगी थी।
कंधे पर रखे एक थैले में दो जोड़े कपड़ों के साथ वो अक़्सर अकेले ही पंद्रह बीस दिन की प्रचार यात्रा पर निकल पड़ते थे।
जो भी व्यक्ति उनसे मिलता था वो उनकी सादगी, सहजता, सरलता और नम्रता से प्रभावित हो कर उनके आगे नतमस्तक हो जाता था।
सादगी मन को हल्का, मुक्त और जमीन से जोड़े रखती है।
सरल हृदय सद्गुणों से भरपूर होता है।
यदि जीवन शैली में - अर्थात रहन सहन में सादगी हो तो पवित्रता, विनम्रता, एवं धार्मिकता स्वाभाविक रुप से स्वयंमेव ही विकसित होने लगती हैं।
अपने जीवन को बेहतर और भापा जी की तरह ही शांत एवं आनंदमयी बनाने के लिए हमें भी उन्हीं की तरह सादगी, सरलता, सहजता और स्पष्टवादिता जैसे गुणों को अपने जीवन में धारण करने का प्रयत्न करना चाहिए।
A Lion and a deer - drinking water together
                         A Lion and a Deer -  drinking water together
According to a historic story, once upon a time, King Jambu Lochan of the Dogra dynasty was on a hunting spree.
Upon crossing the Tawi River, he witnessed an extraordinary and unbelievable sight.
On the banks of the Tawi, a lion and a deer were peacefully drinking water together – without any reaction or fear.
Astonished, King Jambu Lochan called his brother Bahu and said,
“Look at this miracle.
These lion and deer are drinking water together at the same spot.
Neither the lion is trying to frighten the deer, nor is the deer afraid of the lion.”
Seeing this scene, King Jambu Lochan felt that the land here was very virtuous and peaceful.
Thinking this, the king decided to establish a city in that place where people of different cultures and ideologies could live together peacefully.
In the ninth century, King Jambu Lochan founded a city across the Tawi River, named Jambupura or Jambu Nagar, which later came to be known as Jammu.
The famous Bahu Fort, on the other side of the Tawi River, was named after King Jambu Lochan's brother Bahu.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              2  Second Account or Version

There is another version of the above historical story as well.
According to another version:
                                       ~~~~      ~~~~
Astonished at this unbelievable scene, King Jambu Lochan called his brother Bahu and said,
“Look at this miracle.
These lion and deer are drinking water together at the same spot.
Neither the lion is trying to frighten the deer, nor is the deer afraid of the lion.
Both are behaving as if the laws of nature do not apply to them.
The Raja sighed and said:
“This is not harmony; this is disorder.
The lion has forgotten its strength, and the deer has forgotten its instinct.
When nature’s law is violated even by animals, what can be expected of the people of this land?”
He reflected further and said,
“If the lion here cannot assert itself, and the deer has no regard for the lion, then the people born on this land will also have no respect for elders, no respect for leadership, and no respect for law. Their sense of order is broken; their moral values are confused.”
The Raja then concluded,
“A land where the law of nature is ignored becomes easy to rule.
People who cannot recognize and respect authority or honour their leaders cannot protect their own rights and freedom.
Such people can be governed without any resistance.”
Thus, the sight of a lion and a deer drinking together was not a sign of peace for the king, but an insight - a warning—that when respect, hierarchy, and natural balance disappear, society itself begins to decay.
शेर और बकरी एक घाट पर?
                                                           1
एक ऐतिहासिक कहानी के अनुसार -  प्राचीन समय में डोगरा वंश के राजा जम्बू लोचन एक बार शिकार करने निकले।
तवी नदी को पार करने पर उन्होंने एक असाधारण और अविश्वसनीय दृश्य देखा।
तवी के किनारे पर एक शेर और एक हिरण शांति से - बिना किसी प्रतिक्रिया अथवा भय से एक साथ पानी पी रहे थे।
हैरान होकर राजा जम्बू लोचन ने अपने भाई बाहु को बुलाया और कहा -
“यह चमत्कार देखो।
ये शेर और हिरण एक ही घाट पर एक साथ पानी पी रहे हैं ।
न तो शेर हिरण को डराने की कोशिश कर रहा है और न ही हिरण शेर से डर रहा है। "
इस दृश्य को देख कर राजा जम्बू लोचन को लगा कि यहां की धरती बहुत नेक और शांतिपूर्ण है।
ऐसा सोच कर राजा ने उस स्थान पर एक ऐसा नगर बसाने का निश्चय किया जहां सभी प्रकार के लोग शांतिपूर्वक ढंग से इकट्ठे मिल कर रह सकें।
नौवीं शताब्दी में राजा जम्बू लोचन ने तवी नदी के पार अपने नाम पर जम्बूपुरा अथवा जम्बू नगर की स्थापना की जो कालांतर में जम्मू कहलाने लगा।
तवी नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर बना हुआ प्रसिद्ध बाहू किला राजा जम्बू लोचन के भाई बाहू के नाम पर निर्मित है।
          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                                   दूसरा प्रकरण अथवा परिदृश्य

उपरोक्त ऐतिहासिक कहानी का एक अन्य रुप भी मिलता है।
एक अन्य धारणा के अनुसार :
                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                                     2
हैरान होकर राजा जम्बू लोचन ने अपने भाई बाहु को बुलाया और कहा
“यह चमत्कार देखो।
ये शेर और हिरण एक ही घाट पर एक साथ पानी पी रहे हैं
दोनों ऐसे व्यवहार कर रहे हैं जैसे प्राकृतिक नियम इनके लिए कोई मायने नहीं रखते।
न तो शेर हिरण को डराने की कोशिश कर रहा है और न ही हिरण शेर से डर रहा है।"
राजा ने एक आह भरी और थोड़ी देर सोचने के बाद कहा -
“यह सद्भाव नहीं है; यह अव्यवस्था है।
शेर अपनी ताकत भूल गया है, और हिरण अपनी सहज प्रवृत्ति भूल गया है।
जब इस देश के जानवर भी प्रकृति के नियम का उल्लंघन कर रहे हैं, तो इस देश के लोगों से क्या उम्मीद की जा सकती है?”
फिर राजा जम्बू लोचन ने निष्कर्ष निकाला :
“अगर यहाँ एक शेर अपना प्रभाव नहीं दिखा सकता - अपनी शक्ति का प्रदर्शन कर के अपने अधिकार को साबित नहीं कर सकता।
और हिरण के मन में शेर के लिए कोई भी सम्मान और भय नहीं है, तो इस देश में रहने वाले लोगों में भी अपने बड़ों के लिए कोई सम्मान नहीं होगा।
उनके  ह्रदय में न तो नेतृत्व के लिए कोई सम्मान होगा, और न ही कानून के लिए।
उनके मन में व्यवस्था के प्रति कोई आस्था नहीं होगी - उनकी नैतिक विचारधारा भी भ्रमित हो चुकी होगी।
जिस देश में प्रकृति के नियमों को नज़रअंदाज़ किया जाता हो, उन का उल्लंघन किया जाता हो उस देश के लोगों पर शासन करना बहुत आसान होता है।
जो लोग अपने अधिकार को पहचान कर उसका सही ढंग से उपयोग नहीं कर सकते वह अपने देश, अपने लोगों का कोई भला नहीं कर सकते।
और जो अपने नेताओं का सम्मान नहीं कर सकते, वे अपनी आज़ादी और अधिकारों की रक्षा भी नहीं कर सकते।
ऐसे लोगों पर बिना किसी विरोध और प्रतिरोध के शासन किया जा सकता है।”
राजा जम्बू लोचन के लिए शेर और हिरण का एक साथ पानी पीना शांति का प्रतीक नहीं था, बल्कि एक चेतावनी थी - कि जब सम्मान, पदानुक्रम अथवा पद श्रृंखला (Chain of command) और प्राकृतिक संतुलन समाप्त हो जाते हैं, तो समाज स्वयंमेव ही पतन की ओर अग्रसर होने लगता है।
The Law of Common Sense
A law professor in Germany once handed his students a case study that looked deceptively simple.
Two neighbours, the story went, were locked in a bitter dispute.
One owned a row of apple trees whose heavy branches stretched over the fence.
The other grew Tulips in her garden.
The tulip owner filed a case that every autumn, ripe apples tumbled down—straight into her garden, crushing her delicate tulips, and demanded compensation for her ruined flowers.
The apple grower insisted the apples were nature’s doing, not his fault.
The students dove in eagerly.
Half of them argued passionately for the tulip owner, citing sections of property law, civil codes, and precedents.
The other half defended the orchard owner just as fiercely, pointing to natural law and ownership boundaries.
The exam papers came back thick with logic, references, and Latin phrases.
When the professor finally looked up from the stack of papers, he didn’t smile or frown.
He simply said:
“Apples fall in autumn, Tulips bloom in spring.”
The room fell silent.
A few students shifted in their seats. One began to raise a hand in protest, but the professor continued gently:
“Before you quote the law, use your eyes. Before you argue, use your mind. The law matters—but common sense comes first.”
And with that, he gathered the papers and left the room—having given them a lesson no textbook could ever teach.
कानून एवं समान्य ज्ञान
जर्मनी में एक लॉ प्रोफ़ेसर ने एक बार अपने छात्रों को एक केस स्टडी दी जो देखने में बहुत ही साधारण सी लग रही थी।
कहानी के अनुसार, दो पड़ोसी आपस में एक तीखे विवाद में उलझे हुए थे।
एक पड़ोसी के पास सेब के पेड़ों की कतारें थीं जिसकी भारी शाखाएँ बाड़ के ऊपर तक फैली हुई थीं।
दुसरे पड़ोसी के बाग़ में टूलिप के फूल लगे थे।
उसने सेब के बगीचे के मालिक से शिकायत की कि पतझड़ के मौसम में, पड़ोसी के पके हुए सेब गिरकर सीधे उसके फूलों के बगीचे में गिरे और उसके नाज़ुक ट्यूलिप के फूलों को कुचल कर बर्बाद कर दिया ।
ट्यूलिप के मालिक ने अपने बर्बाद हुए फूलों के लिए मुआवज़ा माँगा।
सेब उगाने वाले ने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि ये तो प्रकृति की देन हैं, इसमें उसकी कोई गलती नहीं है ।
ये किस्सा सुना कर प्रोफेसर ने छात्रों से पूछा कि कानून के अनुसार किस की बात सही मानी जानी चाहिए।
छात्रों ने उत्सुकता से इसमें भाग लिया।
उनमें से आधे छात्रों ने संपत्ति कानून, नागरिक संहिता और मिसालों का हवाला देते हुए पूरे जोश के साथ ट्यूलिप के मालिक के पक्ष में तर्क दिए।
बाकी के आधे छात्रों ने प्राकृतिक कानून और स्वामित्व की सीमाओं का हवाला देते हुए, सेब के बाग के मालिक का उतनी ही ज़ोरदार तरीके से बचाव किया।
परीक्षा के पेपर तर्क, संदर्भों और लैटिन वाक्यांशों से भरे हुए थे।
जब प्रोफ़ेसर ने आखिरकार पर्चों के ढेर से सर उठाया तो वो न तो मुस्कुराए और न ही भौंहें चढ़ाईं।
केवल इतना ही कहा:
"सेब पतझड़ में गिरते हैं, और टूलिप के फूल बसंत में खिलते हैं।"
कमरे में सन्नाटा छा गया।
कुछ छात्र अपनी सीटों पर हिलने लगे। कुछ एक ने विरोध में हाथ उठाना शुरु किया, लेकिन प्रोफ़ेसर ने धीरे से कहा:
"कानून का हवाला देने से पहले अपनी आँखों का इस्तेमाल करो।
बहस करने से पहले अपने दिमाग का इस्तेमाल करो।
बेशक कानून मायने रखता है—लेकिन सामान्य ज्ञान उससे ज़्यादा ज़रुरी है।"
और यह कहकर, उन्होंने कागज़ इकट्ठा किए और कमरे से बाहर चले गए—एक ऐसा सबक देकर जो शायद कोई भी पाठ्यपुस्तक कभी नहीं सिखा सकती।
हम वही सुनते हैं जो सुनना चाहते हैं
हम जीवन में बहुत सी बातें सुनते हैं -
लेकिन हम उन्हें वैसे नहीं सुनते जैसे वे वास्तविकता में होती हैं —
हम वो सुनते हैं जैसे हम हैं - या जो हम सुनना चाहते हैं ।
हर शब्द हमारी अपनी धारणा और हमारी समझ से छनकर आता है।
हम जो भी सुनते हैं उसे अपनी धारणा, अपनी समझ और अपनी उस समय की मनःस्थिति के अनुसार उसका अर्थ निकाल कर उसकी व्याख्या करते हैं।
उदाहरण के तौर पर भगवद् गीता में भगवान कृष्ण के उपदेश को ही ले लें।
इसे तीन लोगों ने - अर्जुन, धृतराष्ट्र और संजय ने सुना।
संवाद के अंत में अर्जुन ने प्रणाम किया और कहा:
                 नष्टो मोह: स्मृतिर्लब्धा त्वत्प्रसादान्मयाच्युत |
                स्थितोऽस्मि गतसन्देह: करिष्ये वचनं तव ||
                                 (भगवद् गीता अध्याय 18 - श्लोक 73)
हे अच्युत - हे कृष्ण - आपकी कृपा से मेरा मोह दूर हो गया है, मुझे ज्ञान की उपलब्धि हो गई है।
अब मैं ज्ञान में स्थित और संशय मुक्त हूँ। और आपके वचनानुसार ही कार्य करुंगा।
लेकिन धृतराष्ट्र की सोच कुछ और थी।
उसकी सोच अर्जुन की सोच से अलग थी।
उसने सोचा कि अर्जुन तो युद्ध न करने और हार मानने को तैयार था लेकिन कृष्ण ने चालाकी से उसे युद्ध के लिए राजी कर लिया।
और तीसरा संजय -
उस ने गीता का उपदेश - कृष्ण और अर्जुन का सारा वार्तालाप धृतराष्ट्र को सुनाया -
लेकिन वह स्वयं उससे अछूता - अविचलित और अप्रभावित रहा।
उसे कुछ भी छू नहीं पाया - उसके लिए कुछ भी नहीं बदला।
शब्द वही थे - संदेश भी वही था
लेकिन फिर भी तीन अलग अलग परिणाम।
एक के लिए कृष्ण मुक्तिदाता थे।
दूसरे के लिए वे चालाक नीतिवान थे।
और तीसरे को कोई भी फर्क नहीं पड़ा।
इससे पता चलता है कि ज्ञान की समझ और उपयोगिता प्राप्तकर्ता पर निर्भर करती है।
ज्ञान की शक्ति केवल शब्दों में नहीं, बल्कि इसे ग्रहण करने वाले के हृदय और मन में निहित है।
यही ज्ञान का वास्तविक स्वरुप है।
ज्ञान से भी अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है कि ज्ञान को कैसे समझा और प्रयोग किया जाता है।
जीवन में ज्ञान का अर्थ और उपयोगिता पूरी तरह से श्रोता या प्राप्तकर्ता की धारणा, समझ और मनःस्थिति पर निर्भर करती है।
Bahut gayi Thodi rahi - Much has passed – Little remains
                                       An Ancient Eternal Indian Story
Once, a king organized a grand celebration in his royal court. He invited his friends, state dignitaries, and his revered Guru.
The most renowned dancer in the state was also invited to perform and entertain the evening.
The singing and dancing continued late into the night.
Three-quarters of the night had passed.
The dancer's feet grew weary, and her strength faded. The tabla player and other musicians also began to doze off from exhaustion.
At that moment, the dancer began to sing a couplet while still dancing:
                   "Bahut gayi Thodi rahi - Thodi bhi kut jaaye
                    Kahin thodi kay kaarnay Kalank nahin lag jaaye "
         (Much has passed – little remains – even that shall pass.
           Why let a blemish fall for just what little is left?)
She kept repeating the couplet and pouring all her remaining energy into the performance, trying to keep herself and everyone awake and the performance alive.
Suddenly, the prince, the king’s son, removed his jewel-studded necklace and offered it to the dancer.
Hearing the couplet, the princess too took off her golden, gem-studded bangles and gifted them to the dancer.
The king slowly moved forward on his throne and ordered his servant to gift a thousand gold coins to her.
When the king's Guru heard the same couplet, he, too, handed over all his gold coins to the dancer.
The royal minister, witnessing all this, was utterly surprised.
He wondered why such generous gifts were suddenly offered after hearing this couplet. The dance had been going on all night—what made this moment so special? Even the fellow musicians offered something from their own pockets to the dancer.
Curious, the minister asked the tabla player, “You all perform together and receive your payment in return. Why did you give away half your fee to the dancer?”
The tabla player replied, “We were all exhausted and starting to fall asleep. The dancer saw this and realized most of the night had passed. Only a little remained.
If the king had noticed us dozing off, he would have punished us. So she sang this couplet to alert and warn us:
                             "Bahut gayi Thodi rahi - Thodi bhi kut jaaye
                              Kahin thodi kay kaarnay Kalank nahin lag jaaye "
              (Much has gone – little remains – even a little will pass.
              Why let a blemish come for what little is left?)
Hearing this, we were jolted awake and resumed playing attentively.
Had she not warned us, we might have been punished instead of rewarded.”
Then the minister turned to the prince and asked, “Why did you give away such a valuable necklace after hearing such a simple couplet?”
The prince replied, “I’ve long desired to become king. My father is aging, but still refuses to hand over the throne to me. This very morning, I had conspired with my soldiers to have him killed.
But when I heard that couplet, it struck me—if not today, then tomorrow, the kingdom will be mine anyway. So much time has passed—what harm is there in waiting a little longer? Why stain my hands with my father’s blood for something so near?
That couplet saved me from becoming my father's murderer. What I gave the dancer is nothing in comparison.”
The minister then asked the princess about her gift.
She said, “I’ve come of age, but my father still hasn’t arranged my marriage. Tonight, I had made plans to elope with my lover. But this dancer’s couplet stopped me in my tracks. I thought, why bring disgrace to myself and my family over a little impatience?”
Finally, the minister gathered the courage to ask the king himself why he had given away so much wealth.
The king replied, “I’ve grown old. The weight of ruling burdens me. I wanted to hand the kingdom to my son and spend the rest of my life in contemplation and devotion. But the lure of wealth and power held me back.
Hearing this dancer’s couplet made me realize: most of my life has passed—what little remains can also pass peacefully. It's better to give up this attachment. I’ve resolved to crown the prince at dawn.”
Hearing this, tears welled up in the Guru’s eyes.
He said, “Maharaj, this couplet opened my eyes as well. I was sitting here wondering: a mere dancer earns such wealth and honor just for dancing and singing, while I have gained nothing from years of penance and spiritual practice. I was starting to regret my path.
But this couplet reminded me—most of life was well spent in devotion. It would be foolish to stray now, when so little time remains.”
Witnessing this profound transformation in everyone, the dancer herself thought:
“If just one of my couplets can bring so much change to so many lives, maybe I too should think of my own Self and welfare and try to bring goodness in myself and others.”
And from that moment, the dancer, too, turned towards the true spiritual path and away from worldly pleasures.
