Antradvand By Dr. Sachidanand Kaveeshvar

"Nanak Phikka Boliye,Tan-Man Phikka hoye"

"Nanak Phikka Boliye, Tan-Man Phikka hoye"
“Nanak says: meaningless talks make the body, mind (and surroundings) meaningless”.
In generally speaking, the word Phikka (Punjabi) or Pheeka in Hindi and Urdu means tasteless. Food with no flavor is considered Phikka khana. A fabric or an object with not so bright or faded color is called 'Phikka rang'.

In terms of speech, 'Phikka Bolna' is usually translated as 'Meaningless-Talk' or 'Just a talk-with no action'.

'Meaningless' does not mean simply the words such as 'da da da or la la la la'. It may also apply to some meaningless talks that make absolutely no sense and to those that are merely speeches without any action.
However, all spoken words have a potential of creating a chain of actions and reactions, and they usually do.
Harsh and angry words can start and fuel a heated argument whereas kind and gentle words can create a pleasant and peaceful environment.

The history of Maha Bharat tells us that this great destructive epic war was rooted in a short phrase spoken by Draupadi: "Andhe ki aulaad andhi" meaning "Blind children of the blind father--Like father like son", to mock and laugh at Duryodhan and his brothers.
She may not have meant it but the seeds of deep animosity were planted by these three words.

Sometimes we also say things that we consider meaningless and harmless but they may have great consequences too. Later we may say that I did not mean it, but the damage may have already been done.

That is why the scholars say "Think twice before speaking".

"Pehalay Tolo phir Bolo" Weigh the consequences, and then speak"

If we cannot do that then another advice was given by the elders:

"Ik chup - Sau Sukh" (A silence has hundred benefits)

According to Shri Maan Singh ji 'Maan':
"Kade kisay nu kujh nahin kehnaa chaaheeda
Ho sakay taan chup hee rehnaa chaaheeda”

A 'Mahaa-Vaakya' from the great Vedas:
 "Satyam Bruyaat, Priyam Bruyaat
   Ma Bruyaat SatyamApriyam"

"Speak Truth, Speak sweet that is beneficial to all.
Do not speak if it is harsh, bitter, destructive or damaging even if it
   is true."

"Nanak Phikka Boliye, Tan-Man Phikka hoye"

Bodhidharma and Emperor Wu

Bodhidharma

There is a famous quatrain attributed to Bodhidharma in his meeting with Emperor Wu.

The emperor asked Bodhidharma, the toothless old monk with big wide open eyes: "Since I ascended the throne, I have promoted the building of temples, the transcription of Sutras (scriptures), ordination of monks;
serving and donating money to temples and preachers. What merit have I obtained? "
The Master replied, "No merit at all."
The Emperor asked: - "Why no merit?"
The Master said: - "All these things are nothing but unclean for merit reasons; at the most they ripen the meager fruit of a human rebirth or Deva (god). They are like shadows that follow the forms, lacking their own reality."

The emperor asked: - "So, what kind is the real merit?"
The Master said: - "It is the pure, wonderful and perfect knowledge (Gyana). Its essence is emptiness. You cannot win a spiritual merit through worldly means..."

Then the emperor asked: - "What is the first principle of sacred truth?"

Bodhidharma replied: - "Vast emptiness, nothing else; absolutely nothing."

Des me Pardesi

What is Dedication

Aqsar aesi ghadiyaan

Aqsar aesi ghadiyaan bhi mere jeevan me aayi hain

Aadat se Majboor hoon Mai (In Roman Script)

While driving back from Chicago late at night, I looked thru the window on my right side. There was a spectacular view of full moon, running across the sky at a fast pace. It seemed as if it was racing with my car.
My mind was wondering; wanting to ask the moon "Where are you going? What is your destination?  What is it that you are trying to find?  You have been moving night after night; for so long and still have not found your destination yet?
And a Kavita, a poem was born while wondering and pondering over these questions.
See if you like it.......

Aadat se Majboor hoon Mai

Chaand se maine poochha saari raat tu kyonkar chalta hai
Kisko milne ki khaatir tu saari Raat bhataktaa hai
Sadiyon chalne par bhi manzil na tumko mil paayi hai
is chhor se us chhor tak kyon ye daud lagaayi hai

Vo bola chaah nahin manzil ki, isi liye Purnoor hoon me
Chalnaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Maine poochha Maina se kyon meethe raag tu gaati hai
Madhur Madhur geeton se apne sab ka dil behlaati hai
Meethi vaani sun ke karte log tujhe pinjare me band
Chhodo meethe geet raho aazaad - udo Svachhand

Vo boli bus geeton me apne hi rehati masroor hoon me
Gaana meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Poochha maine jharne se kyon kal kal kal kal behtaa hai
Saagar tak pahunchegi ya phir mitti me mil jayegi

Vo bola girate jal ki meethi kal kal me makhmoor hoon me
Behnaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Maine poochha shamma se tu raat raat kyon jalti hai
Raushan auron ko karne ki khaatir khud bhi jalti hai
Kaam nikal jaane pe sab upkaar bhulaa dete hain log
Sooraj jab Nikale to dekho shammaa bujhaa dete hain log

Vo boli such hai raushani ki khaatir hi mashhoor hoon me
Par jalnaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Ik din doob rahaa ik bichhu dekh ke maine uthaa liya
Lekin us bichhu ne fauran mere haath ko kaat liya
Usi haath ko kaate hai jo teri jaan bachaaye hai

Vo bola zehar mila qudrat se isi liye maghroor hoon me
Dasnaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Pedh se maine poochha itne zulm tu kyonkar sehtaa hai
Garmi Sardi seh kar apna sab kuchh deta rehtaa hai
Log teri chhaaya me baithen, Phal bhi tere khaate hain
Sookh jaaye to kaat tujhe vo  apne ghar banvaate hain

Vo bola sadiyon se nibhaata aaya ye dastoor hoon me
Sehanaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Bhoole bhatke huon ko tum kyon raasta dikhlaate ho

Vo bole duniya kya karti hai, in baaton se door hoon me
Jagaana meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

Poochhe hain kuchh log mujhe kyon roz roz tum likhte ho
Jo kehate- vo karte ho,  ya bus kehate aur likhte ho
Aajeevan vidyaarthi hoon me, Gyaan Arjan kaam mera
Peshaa hai adhyaapn aur 'Professor Rajan' naam mera

Prachaarak hoon, Updeshak hoon par karm se koson door hoon me
Kehanaa meri aadat hai aur aadat se majboor hoon me

While driving back from Chicago late at night, I looked thru the window on my right side. There was a spectacular view of the full moon, running across the sky at a fast pace. It seemed as if it was racing along with my car.

My mind started wondering; wanting to ask the moon "Where are you going? What is your destination?  What is it that you are trying to find?  You have been moving night after night; for so long and still have not found your destination yet?
And a Kavita, a poem was born while wondering and pondering over these questions.

Body Clock /The Day Light Savings Time ended

The day light saving time ended on Sunday November 2nd. The clocks were moved one hour back at 2 AM  between Saturday and Sunday night. As usual I woke up at 6:30 am according to my body-clock, but my desk clock was showing 5:30. I guess the body will need a couple of days to adjust to this change.

Those who travel between India and USA or Canada, also experience a big conflict between body and nature's clock. There is nine and a half to twelve and a half hours of difference in time between India and where one lives in the USA or Canada. After traveling for about 18 to 24 hours while going to or coming back from India, the whole routine changes. Day becomes night and night becomes day. The time for breakfast, lunch, dinner, sleeping or waking up and everything else changes. It takes sometimes 3-4 days or even a week to get adjusted to new routine.

Its amazing how body has its own time clock. If we follow a certain routine for a while and have a set time of sleeping waking and eating then the body programs itself to that routine. Without even looking at the clock, the body tells us when it is time to eat or sleep. It wakes up at the same time even if we did not want to.
Body wants to follow its own time clock.

Same is true with the mind also. If we keep pondering on the same thoughts for a prolonged period of time, whatever they may be; positive or negative, the mind  programs itself to it.
Then even if we do not want to, the mind goes on thinking about the same  thoughts, in the same pattern; over and over.
If we keep thinking negatively for a while then the mind gets programmed into negativity and in any situation, it automatically goes into thinking negatively.

But just as the body adjusts itself to the new routine and environment, with little effort, the old thinking habits of mind can also be broken and programmed into new patterns.

With constant and carefully monitored efforts a  'Negative Thinking Mind' can be changed into an all time 'Positive Thinking Mind'.
                                'Rajan Sachdeva'

Note:   In the USA and Canada, this time change happens twice a year. Clocks are moved one hour backwards in the beginning of the winter and again moved ahead in the beginning of summer.

That which is at rest, should be easy to get hold of.

That which is at rest, should be easy to get hold of, than that, which is moving or changing constantly.

Unfortunately, we do not value or appreciate much to which is easy to get hold of.

We strive to attain which is far away or constantly moving away.
Once we get it, we lose interest in it after a while and start running after something else.

The cycle goes on.

God is at rest and closer than anything else; and should be easy to hold on to, but we usually don’t pay much attention to ‘IT’ and keep running after other things; such as name, fame and power.

                                                                                    ‘Rajan Sachdeva’

Note: The ancient Indian scriptures always used the word ‘IT’.
Since God is ‘Nirakaar’ (formless), no gender can be applied; neither he nor she.
