Aadat say Majboor hoon Mai

Once, after a Satsang in Chicago, we left for back to Michigan late at night.
While driving, I looked out the window and saw a beautiful - very spectacular view.
The full moon, shining brightly, was running across the sky at a fast speed.
It was as if he was running alongside my car - racing with the car.
I wanted to show this scene to the children.
I turned toward the back and saw everyone sleeping comfortably in the back seat.
Suddenly, my mind also started racing along with the moon -
wondering and wanting to ask the moon: "Where are you going? What is your destination?
What is it that you are trying to find - to achieve?
You have been running night after night; for so long and still have not found your destination yet?

While wondering and pondering over these questions -
the following poem was born - representing the feelings that arose in my mind.

                             Aadat say Majboor hoon Mai

Chaand say mainay poochhaa kyon tu raat raat bhar chaltaa hai
Kisko milnay ki khaatir - tu saari raat bhataktaa hai
Sadiyon chalnay par bhi toonay manzil abhi na paayi hai
is chhor say us chhor tak kyon ye daud lagaayi hai?
Vo bola chaah nahin manzil ki, isi liye Purnoor hoon main
Chalnaa meri aadat hai aur aadat say majboor hoon main

Mainaa say poochhaa Mainay kyon meethay raag tu gaati hai
Madhur madhur geeton say apnay sab ka dil behlaati hai
Meethi vaani sun kay kartay log tujhay pinjray mai band
Chhodo meethi vaani - raho aazaad - udo svachhand
Vo boli apnay geeton may hi bus rehti masroor hoon main
Gaanaa meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Poochhaa mainay jharnay say kyon kal kal, kal kal behtaa hai
Nirmal sheetal jal apnaa dharti ko arpan kartaa hai
Patali si ye jal ki dhaara kahaan talak jaa paayegi
Saagar tak pahunchegi ya phir mitti may mil jayegi
Vo bola behtay jal ki meethi kal kal may makhmoor hoon main
Behnaa meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Poochha mainay shamma say kyon raat raat bhar jalti hai
Raushan auron ko karnay ki khaatir khud bhi jalti hai
Kaam nikal jaanay pay sab upkaar bhulaa detay hain log
Sooraj jab niklay to dekho shamaa bujhaa detay hain log
Vo boli yoon to raushani kee khaatir hee mashhoor hoon me
(par) Jalnaa meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Doob rahay ik bichhu ko mainay haathon me liyaa uthaa
Par us bichhu nay fauran hee meray haath pay kaat liyaa
Poochhaa mainay bichhu say ki ye kaisaa anyaaye hai
Usi haath ko kaatay hai jo teri jaan bachaaye hai?
Vo bola zehar mila qudrat say isi liye maghroor hoon main
Dasnaa meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Pedh say mainay poochha itnay zulm tu kyonkar sehtaa hai
Garmi sardi seh kar apna sab kuchh detaa rehtaa hai
Log teri chhaaya me baithen, Phal bhi teray khaatay hain
Sookh jaaye to kaat tujhay vo ghar apnaa banvaatay hain
Vo bola sadiyon say nibhaata aaya ye dastoor hoon main
Sehnaa meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Ik din Guru say poochha - kyon tum soye log jagaatay ho
Kyon bhulay bhatkay logon ko tum rastaa dikhlaatay ho
Logon nay to kabhi kisi Rehbar ki baat na maani hai
Guruon Peeron say duniya nay dushmani hi thaani hai
Vo bolay duniya kya karti hai, in baaton say door hoon main
Jagaana meri aadat hai - aur
aadat say majboor hoon main

Poochhay hain kuchh log mujhay kyon roz roz tum likhtay ho
Jo kehtay- vo kartay ho - ya bus likhtay aur kehtay ho
"Aajeevan vidyaarthi hoon mai - Gyaan-arjan hai kaam mera
Peshaa hai adhyaapan aur 'Professor Rajan' naam mera
Pracharak hoon, updeshak hoon par karm say koson door hoon main
Kehnaa meri aadat hai aur
aadat say majboor hoon main
