In short:
That which stays within a person —
quietly hidden in the heart with humility — yet continues to inspire steadfastness on the principles of truth, never allowing those principles to be compromised, and guarding against surrendering to falsehood or falling low — that is self-respect (Svabhiman).
And that which spills outward —
Constantly criticizing others out of rivalry and envy, and striving to dominate others — that is ego or arrogance (Abhiman).

Both remain with all of us without being analysed as self-respect is earned whereas EGO is just because we E(Edge) G(god) O(out) from our lives. It's by default with almost all individuals. It's equilant to a claim (false) that "I'M SUPERIOR' which in actuality is not.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful analysis Jì 🙏🙏

ReplyDeleteVery nice explanation Ji!
ReplyDeleteMy humble version:
Ego arises from the belief that the doer is our physical self. It leads to arrogance.
Humility arises from the belief that the doer is our spiritual self. It leads to confidence (or self-respect).
