It's a double-edged sword

The outer edge cuts your Popularity
While the inner edge cuts your Truthfulness and Purity
Ultimately, it eliminates both.

    Adding to it:
    Constantly judging others as inferior or superior is the outer expression of ego.
    Unable or unwilling to seek out the true self and remaining ignorant is the inner expression of ego.
