It's natural for us to feel our own pain and the pain of our loved ones.
But the real measure of our humanity is found in our ability to feel the pain and suffering of others, those whom we do not consider our own.
Opening our hearts to their suffering and sorrow, empathizing with them, and extending whatever help we can offer according to our abilities and capacities is the mark of true humanity and the spirit of genuine compassion.
If the suffering of others does not move you, if their pain leaves you untouched, it is a call to look within - something worth reflecting on deeply - a sign that you might also need healing and help.
Perhaps there are wounds from past experiences buried within you - silent and unattended - that need reconsideration and healing.

ReplyDeleteSympathy & Empathy are synonyms as per layman. But there lies a distinction between two. Former is theoretical while latter is practical. With empathetic mindset, it's "We-our- ourselves" approach is there for all, 24-by-7-by-365 days in letter as well as spirit.
