A nation or the people who refuse to learn from its past and fail to see and secure its future by examining the current circumstances are eventually doomed and annihilated by time.
Greed and selfishness - lust for short-term gain and patty selfish motives - coupled with over-confidence and ego - that nothing can happen to us - are the biggest hurdles that limit one's progress - not only one individual's life - but the whole nation, its people, and culture.
Mistakes and follies made by one generation affect the next generations.
The next generations have to face the consequences and pay the price.
History is not for reading only.
While learning and analyzing past history, one should learn from mistakes their ancestors made - and try to correct them - not only for themselves but also for future generations.
One should not think and live just for himself - only for short-term personal gains and satisfaction. Even animals can do that.
Only humans have the faculty of imagining the future and doing something that will ensure the security and well-being of coming generations.
