Who is Dishonest?

In a village, lived a farmer who used to make his living by selling milk products. Every morning, his wife would make some butter and hand-press them in form of hard round balls - each weighing one kilogram and the farmer would go to the city to sell it.
One morning, as usual, the wife gave him the butter and the farmer went to the nearby town. As usual, he sold the butter-balls to the same merchant, who was his regular customer. He took tea leaves, sugar, oil, soap et cetera in exchange, and started his return journey home.
After the farmer left, as the merchant was about to put the butter in the freezer, on a whim, he decided to weigh one butter-ball. To his surprise, the weight of that ball turned out to be 900 grams. The merchant got skeptical and started weighing all the balls one after the other. It turned out that each one of them weighed around 900 grams instead of one kilogram.
When the farmer returned to the town the next day to sell his butter, the merchant angrily called him out for being dishonest and told him to get lost and never to return again.
"I trusted you but you have been deceiving me all along. You have been bringing 900-gram butter-balls by saying they were one kilogram each. I do not wish to do deal with you anymore. Take your business elsewhere." He said.
The farmer politely replied: "Please don't get angry, and do accept my sincerest apologies. I had lost the weighing stone of one kilogram. I am a poor farmer and did not have money to buy a new one-kilogram weight measure. So, I use the packet of one-kilogram sugar that I take from you to weigh my butter. To balance the scale, I put your sugar packet in one pan and my butter in the other, and make sure that they weigh the same."
The merchant understood that it was him who was the dishonest one, not the farmer, and felt ashamed for his own misdeed. 
He realized that:
What we give to others, comes back to us...

An Old Teacher and A Boy

On a rainy day, the class was going on in a school.

Out of the blue, the teacher asked his pupils: "If I give each one of you a hundred rupees, how will you spend the money?"

A boy said: "I will buy a video game"

Another said: "I will buy a nice cricket bat"

A girl said: "I will buy a beautiful doll"

Another said: "I will buy a lot of chocolates..."

Upon seeing that one of the pupils was engrossed in his thoughts, the teacher asked him: "What are you thinking about? How will you spend the money?"

The boy replied - "I will buy eyeglasses for my mother. Her  eyesight is poor." 

 "But your father can buy the eyeglasses for her... wouldn't you rather buy something for yourself?" The teacher asked. 

To this, the boy said that his father had passed away. 

"My mother works as a tailor to earn the money to send me to school. Her poor eyesight makes her work difficult. The eyeglasses will help her to work better and faster. I will be able to study hard and make my life better and when I grow up, I will be able to provide the best things to her."

The teacher was very touched by this boy's gesture, and said: "Here's the hundred rupees that I promised to you. And here's another two hundred, which I am giving you as a loan. Buy the best eyeglasses for your mother. You can repay this loan at a later date - whenever you can. I wish that you become a successful and honorable person some day, and I look forward to such a day!"

Twenty years later ...

On a rainy day, as a class is going on, a district collector's motorcade stops in front of the school, alerting the whole staff. In fact, the whole school goes silent.

But then an amazing thing happens!

The district collector goes to a class room where he saw an old teacher. The DC bowed down and touched the feet of the old teacher with respect. 

The teacher looked surprised and confused. 

The young DC said: 

"Sir, do you remember?

Twenty years ago you gave two hundred rupees to a young boy to buy eyeglasses for his mother and told him to repay whenever he can. You also wished him to become a successful man one day.  

Well sir! I am that boy and I am here to repay that loan!"

The whole staff was stunned to see this!

The old teacher gave a warm embrace to the young collector, his heart filled up with pride, and his eyes become moist.

If anyone has ever helped you, do not forget that deed.

A person's luck can change very quickly. 
 An emperor can become a beggar just as quickly as a beggar can become an emperor...

A Beautiful letter written by a father to his son and daughter

Following is a letter to his daughter from a renowned Hong Kong TV broadcaster and Child Psychologist.
The words are actually applicable to all of us, young or old, children or parents.! 
This applies to all sons & daughters too. 
All parents can use this in their teachings to their children.

Dear Children,
I am writing this to you because of three reasons

A). Life, fortune and mishaps are unpredictable, nobody knows how long he lives. 
B). I am your father, and if I don't tell you these, no one else will.
C). Whatever written is my own personal bitter experiences that perhaps could save you a lot of unnecessary heartaches. 

Remember the following as you go through life

1. Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I. 
To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really will be good to you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.

2. No one is indispensable, nothing is in the world that you must possess. 
Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what you wanted the most.

3. Life is short. 
When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.

4. Love is nothing but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness. 
Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.

5. A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life. 
One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags!

6. I do not expect you to financially support me when I am old, neither  would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether  you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether rich or poor.

7. You honour your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.

8. I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but could never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard! There is no free lunch!

9. No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know if we would meet again in our next life.

Flowers On A Gravestone

A child went to a cemetery - threw his backpack on the ground next to his father's gravestone and sat down. 
Crying loudly, he shouted: "get up Papa! My teacher told me not to come to the school tomorrow unless you 
come there and bring my fees!!"
On another gravestone nearby, a gentleman was talking to a florist on the phone. 
He was placing an order for a rug made entirely of flowers, for 5,000 rupees.
As soon has he heard the child's cries, he told the florist to cancel the order. 
The florist asked: Why?
The gentleman replied: I just found some excellent flowers right here! 
Then he hung up the phone - placed the money on the child's hand, and said:
"Son, your father has sent this money for you. Please deposit your fees tomorrow."

On the way back home, the gentleman thought to himself:
"The flowers in the rug would have wilted away in a day or two, 
but the fees will help the child towards aiming a better future - and consequently, 
help him for the rest of his life."

What could be a better tribute than this to a loved one?

समाधी पर फूलों की चादर

शमशान में  एक समाधी पर अपना बस्ता फैंक कर एक बच्चा समाधी के पास बैठ कर शिकायत करने लगा। 
उठो ना पापा - टीचर ने कहा है कि अपने पापा को बोलो कल फ़ीस लेकर आएं नहीं तो  कल से स्कूल मत आना !!
बराबर की समाधी पर, एक सज्जन फ़ोन पर किसी फूलवाले से पांच हज़ार रुपयों की फूलों की एक चादर बनाने 
के लिए बात कर रहे थे।  
बच्चे की ये बात सुनकर वो कुछ सोच में पड़ गए और फ़ोन पर फूलवाले से बोले कि ये ऑर्डर कैंसल कर दो। 
फूल वाले ने पूछा क्यों ? 
अब नहीं चाहिए भाई। फूल इधर ही मिल गए हैं।
इतना कह कर उन्होंने फोन बंद कर दिया और वो पैसे बच्चे के हाथ में रख कर बोले :
बेटा लो - ये पैसे तुम्हारे पापा ने भेजे हैं। कल स्कूल जाना और अपनी फ़ीस जमा करवा देना। 

श्मशान से वापिस जाते हुए वह सज्जन सोच रहे थे -
कि अगर वो पांच हज़ार रूपये के फूलों की चादर बनवा कर वहां बिछवा देते, तो वो फूल दो दिन में मुरझा कर सड़ जाते 
लेकिन अब वही रूपये किसी की ज़िंदगी संवारने में मदद करेंगे। 
इस से बढ़ कर सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि और क्या होगी ? 

Three Lessons, My Father Taught Me

When I was a small child, I was very selfish, always tried to grab the best for myself. Slowly, everyone left me and I had no friends. I didn’t think it was my fault. I always criticized others.
My father tried to help me understand how to succeed in life.

One day, my father cooked two bowls of noodles and put them on the table. One bowl had one egg on top and the other bowl did not have any egg on top. He said, “My child. You choose. Which bowl do you want”?
Eggs were hard to come by in those days! We only got to eat eggs during festivals. Of course, I chose the bowl with egg! As we started eating, I was congratulating myself on my wise choice – the bowl of noodles with egg on top. Then to my surprise as my father ate his noodles, there were two eggs at the bottom of his bowl beneath the noodles! I regretted so much! And scolded myself for being too hasty in my decision. My father smiled and said to me, “My child. You must remember what your eyes see may not be true. And if your intent is to take advantage of people, you will end up losing!”

The next day, my father again cooked two bowls of noodles: one bowl with an egg on top and the other bowl with no egg on top. Again, he put the two bowls on the table and said to me, “My child. You choose. Which bowl do you want?”
This time I was smarter. I chose the bowl without any egg on top. 
To my surprise, As I separated the noodles on top, there was not even a single egg at the bottom of the bowl! 
Again, my father smiled and said to me, “My child. You must not always rely on past experiences - because sometimes, life can cheat you or play tricks on you. But you must not get too annoyed or sad, just treat this as learning a lesson. You cannot learn this from textbooks.”

The third day, my father again cooked two bowls of noodles - again one bowl with an egg on top and the other bowl with no egg on top. He put both the bowls on the table and again said to me “My child. You choose. Which bowl do u want?”
This time, I said to my father, “Dad, you choose first. You are the head of the family and contributed the most to the family.”
My father did not decline and chose the bowl with one egg on top. As I was eating my bowl of noodles, I was sure in my heart that there is no egg hidden inside the noodles. To my surprise! There were two eggs at the bottom of the bowl.

My father smiled at me with love in his eyes and said:
“You must remember my child! When you think for the good of others, good things will naturally happen to you!”

I always remembered these three lessons my father taught me - and did my business accordingly. 
True enough, my business was a roaring success.
