Never compromise your principles

"Softer than the flower, where kindness is concerned;
Stronger than the thunder where principles are at stake."

Found the above beautiful quote from the ancient Vedic texts of India on the web.

Where kindness is concerned, be softer than the flowers.
But if the principles are at stake, be as strong as the thunder.
Never compromise your principles for the sake of recognition or popularity - to please others.

People will carry you on their shoulders when they find you beneficial to them.
But they will also drop you in a second if they think you are not good enough for them anymore.
Living with awareness and consciousness- with honesty and integrity is more important than trying to please everyone.

  3. "CHALTI KAA NAAM GAADI..." On both fronts(kindness & principles) standing 'Stay Put' pays off. Good thought.

  4. Uncle Ji as usual very beautiful. I wanted to make one point around this though.

Principles can also be negative, ill informed or wrong. We see in the world today Terrorists, Extremists, and Mis Guided people hold onto wrong Principles because they think they are right and like "Thunder" cause harm.

I know you meant the positive principles, but its important that we affirm the principles we are talking about also.

    1. Thank you, David ji, for your comments.
You are right, and I agree with you.
However, the verses in the Vedas, Gurbani, or any Holy Scriptures, were written in concise language.
Even the modern-day quotes are written in the same way - in short - with a few words. We have to read between the lines and try to understand the intent. Whenever a Guru, a Saint, or a scholar says: Stick to your principles, they mean sticking to the principles of humanity.
Similarly, Bhagavad Geeta and other scriptures simply say we should perform selfless actions. Technically one can say that a terrorist or a suicide bomber is also working on the same principle. However, we know that is not the intent of the scriptures.
Anyway, perhaps I should have made it a little more clear.
And by the way, this quote < "stronger than the thunder ......" is a popular one on the web - sometimes with the names of Paramhans Yogananda and Swami Vivekanand also.
I read it on your Interfaith Spirituality forum - posted by you. I liked it and posted it with my added comments. Such as : do not compromise for the sake of recognition and popularity.
Obviously, I was not able to convey the message properly.
So, I thank you for the clarification.

  5. I agree with Mr David Dhanoa ji in so far as wrong principles are concerned because any hard core and fundamentalist approach has done more harm than good. Therefore I think a middle path is better that too under the guidance of a living True Master who has the power to reveal the Omnipresent God to any seeker
