I heard on one of the Ted talks that, "People listen to respond, not to understand. If you let them talk first, they are more likely to take interest in what you're going to say" I've found this really helpful as allowing others to talk first benefits me in two ways. Firstly. It can clear any preconceived notions I may have. Secondly, if I need to get my point across, it gives me the opportunity to uninterruptedly communicate my thoughts.
