शायर ने हर गिरह में लाखों खयाल बाँधे
हरफ़ों में ज़िन्दगी के सारे मलाल बाँधे

चलता रहा मुसलसल बेदर्द सा तमाशा
पलकों पे हसरतों के दिलकश सवाल बाँधे

हालात की शिकस्तें, बरबादियों के मेले
चेहरे की सिलवटों में कितने ही साल बाँधे

कहने लगे फ़साना उनसे जो दिल लगी का
अश्कों के हमने देखो कैसे उछाल बाँधे

वो पेश आए हमसे कुछ सख़्त-तर से जब जब
हमने भी तल्ख़ियों के लाखों बवाल बाँधे

Shaayer nay har girah mein laakhon khyaal baandhay
Harfon mein zindagi kay saaray malaal baandhay

Chaltaa rahaa musalsal,  be-dard saa tamaasha
Palkon pay hasraton kay dilkash sawaal baandhay

Halaat ki shikasten, barbaadiyon kay melay
Chehray ki silvaton mein kitnay hi saal baandhay

Kehnay lagay fasaana un say jo dil lagi ka 
Ashkon kay hum nay dekho kaisay uchhaal baandhay

Vo pesh aaye hum say kuchh sakht-tar say jab jab
Hum nay bhi talkhiyon kay laakhon bavaal baandhay

गिरह  Girah  =  a knot, a joint (joining, putting together the lines of a Ghazal or poem)
हरफ़ों में   Harfon mein                      =  In words
मलाल      Malaal                                 = Regrets, Grief, Sorrow
मुसलसल   Musalsal                            = Continuously
चेहरे की सिलवटों में  Chehray ki silvaton mein  = in the wrinkles of the face
सख़्त-तर  Sakht-tar                          =   Harder (Harsher tone)
तल्ख़ियों के   Talkhiyon kay                = of Bitterness

जिस ने जैसी राय बना ली Jisnay jaisi raaye banaa lee

क्या फ़र्क़ पड़ता है  कि असल में  हम कैसे हैं 
जिस ने जैसी राय बना ली उसके लिए तो वैसे हैं

Kya farq padtaa hai ki asal me hum kaisay hain 
Jisnay jaisi raaye banaa lee uskay liye to vaisay hain

Usually, it does not matter what we are in reality.
When people create an opinion about us in their minds, they always see us the same way. 

न था कुछ तो ख़ुदा था Na tha kuchh to Khuda tha

Happy Valentine's Day

गर्भ में दो बच्चों की बात

एक माँ के गर्भ में दो बच्चे थे।
एक ने दूसरे से पूछा: "क्या तुम विश्वास करते हो कि इस जगह को छोड़ने के बाद, डिलीवरी के बाद भी जीवन चलता रहेगा ? 
क्या इसके बाद भी कोई और जीवन है?"
दूसरे ने उत्तर दिया, “हाँ - बिल्कुल है । डिलीवरी के बाद भी कोई जीवन ज़रुर होगा। हो सकता है कि हम यहाँ इसीलिए हैं कि हम आगे के उस जीवन के लिए स्वयं को तैयार कर सकें।
"सब बकवास है ," पहले ने कहा।
“यहाँ के बाद कोई जीवन नहीं है। कोई नहीं जानता कि अगर कोई जीवन होगा भी तो वह कैसा होगा? ”
दूसरे ने कहा, "मुझे नहीं पता, लेकिन मुझे लगता है कि वहां यहां से ज्यादा रोशनी होगी। हम अपने पैरों पर चलेंगे और अपने मुंह से खाएँगे। शायद हमारे पास अन्य इंद्रियां होंगी जिन्हें हम अभी समझ नहीं सकते हैं। ”
पहले ने उत्तर दिया, "यह सब बेतुकी बातें हैं । पैरों पर चलना असंभव है। और हम अपने मुँह से खाएँगे? जानते नहीं हो कि गर्भनाल हमारा पोषण करती है और हमारी सब ज़रुरतों  की पूर्ति करती है। लेकिन यहाँ से बाहर जाते समय हम इस गर्भनाल को अपने साथ नहीं ले जा सकते और इसके बिना हमारा जीवित रहना संभव नहीं है। इसलिए, तर्क के अनुसार प्रसव के बाद कोई भी जीवन मौजूद नहीं हो सकता।
दूसरे ने जोर देकर कहा, "लेकिन मुझे लगता है आगे का संसार यहाँ से अलग होगा। हमारी ज़रूरतें अलग होंगीं। शायद हमें वहां गर्भनाल की आवश्यकता नहीं होगी। 
पहले ने उत्तर दिया, "ये सब बकवास है । अगर ये सही है, अगर यहां से जाने के बाद भी कोई जीवन है तो आज तक कोई भी ये बताने के लिए वहाँ से वापस क्यों नहीं आया? 
डिलीवरी के बाद जीवन का अंत है, और उसके बाद कुछ भी नहीं है ”।
दूसरे ने कहा: मुझे नहीं पता वो जीवन कैसा होगा, लेकिन निश्चित रुप से माँ वहाँ होगी, और वह हमारी देखभाल करेगी।
पहले ने उत्तर दिया: माँ? क्या तुम सच में यह मानते हो कि  माँ नाम की कोई चीज़ है ? ये क्या बकवास है। अगर सचमुच ही माँ का अस्तित्व है, तो वह अब कहाँ है? वो दिखाई क्यों नहीं देती? जिसे हम देख नहीं सकते वह सिर्फ एक कल्पना है - उसका कोई आस्तित्व नहीं है।"
इस पर दूसरे ने उत्तर दिया:
 "नहीं भाई। हमारी हर तरफ माँ ही तो है। हम उसके अंदर ही तो हैं। हर तरफ से उसके आस्तित्व ने हमें घेर रखा है। 
कभी-कभी, जब आप पूर्णतया मौन होते हैं, और ध्यान केंद्रित करते हैं, तो आप वास्तव में उसकी उपस्थिति का अनुभव कर सकते हैं। आप उसकी प्यार भरी आवाज भी सुन सकते हैं।"

Two Babies in Mother's Womb

In a mother’s womb were two babies. 
One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after we leave this place?” 
The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”
“Nonsense,” said the first. 
“There is no life after here. What kind of life would that be?”
The second said, “I don’t know, but I think there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can’t understand now.”
The first replied, “That is absurd. Walking on the legs is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short, and we can not take it with us. Therefore, logically, life after delivery can not exist. 
The second insisted, “Well, I think there is something, and perhaps it’s different than here. Maybe we won’t need this physical cord anymore.”
The first replied, “Nonsense. Moreover, if there is life, then why has no one ever come back from there to tell us? Delivery is the end of life, and there is nothing out there after delivery”.
The second said: Well, I don’t know, but certainly Mother would be there, and she will take care of us.
The first replied: Mother? Do you truly believe in Mother? That’s ridiculous. If Mother exists, then where is she now? Why do we not  see her?" Since we don’t see her, it is only logical that She doesn’t exist.”
To which the second replied, "Sometimes, when you’re in silence, and you focus, and you really listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice, calling us from above.”

Why bright brains of the Indian subcontinent leave their country?

There is an expression in India, (in fact all over Asia) that goes like this: 
If a nail sticks out, hammer it down.
So, if you are an oddball - if you think out of the box and question the old establishment -
you will be hammered down.
On the other hand, a traditional American expression is: 
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. 
In other words, those who raise questions, and challenge the system, the seniors and their old ways - get attention and are given chances to prove their way of thinking. People and students with new and innovative ideas are encouraged and facilitated to expand their ideas further. They even get scholarships to do more research and develop new ways to improve their theories. 
No wonder the most brilliant brains of India and Asia want to leave their country and settle in America - where their talents are recognized and encouraged. Not only they get personal satisfaction by doing their research work freely, but they also help in the building and advancement of their newly adopted country as well. 
However, this is a great loss for their native countries. 
To develop the country and improve the lives of its inhabitants, its establishments should recognize, encourage, and help their brilliant brains to do their work freely - without restrictions. So that all the countries in the world and humanity in general, can advance further.
