Shrikant Jichkar - A virtuous personality that we hardly know about

If someone asks you the name of the most educated and learned person of India -
who was also a doctor, a barrister -
been an IPS officer and an IAS officer -
MLA, MP, and a Minister also.
That was also a painter and a photographer -
a motivational speaker - and a journalist,
and be a historian too?
Also a scholar of Sanskrit and Mathematics -
with a great deal of knowledge of sociology, economics as well.
and has been the Vice-Chancellor of a University.
The one who has also composed poetry!

Most people would say - "is this possible?
Are you talking about an individual or an institution?"

There was such a person in India -
who took farewell from this world after being a victim of a terrible road accident at the young age of 49 years!
The name of that person was -
Dr. Shrikant Jichkar!

Shrikant Jichkar was born in 1954 in an affluent Maratha farming family.
He was the most educated person in India, which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
Dr. Shrikant had obtained more than 20 degrees!
Some regular and some through correspondence.
That too in first-class and gold medalist.

His degrees/educational qualifications were as follows...
MBBS,
MD  - gold medalist
LLB
LLM
MBA
Bachelor in journalism
M. A. English
M.A Hindi
M.A History
M.A Psychology
M.A Sociology
M.A Political Science
M.A. Archeology
M.A. Anthropologie
D. Lit in Sanskrit - university topper

Most of his degrees were with the First Merit, and he had obtained several gold medals.
As per the Limca Book of Records, Jichkar's status as the country's most qualified person remains uncontested.

Srikant Jichkar was also an IPS officer of the 1978 batch and an IAS officer of the 1980 batch.
He became MLA in Maharashtra in 1981
and a Rajya Sabha MP from 1992 to 1998!

Shrikant Jichkar spent all his time from 1973 to 1990 preparing for university exams.
He resigned in 1980 after doing only 4 months job of IAS.
Became the youngest MLA of the country at the age of 26, also became a minister in the Maharashtra government -
and became the most influential minister by getting 14 portfolios!
He did many Police reforms in Maharashtra!
As a Rajya Sabha MP from 1992 to 1998, he was a member of many other committees and did many important works there!

The last stage of cancer was diagnosed in 1999 - the doctors said he had only one month!
He was lying on his death bed at the hospital...
But Shrikant Jichkar, rich in spiritual thoughts, did not give up.

During that time, a monk came to see him at the hospital.
He consoled him and inspired him to study Sanskrit language scriptures.
"You can't die now... you have a lot of work to do now!" The monk said.

Miraculously, Shrikant Jichkar made a complete recovery!
As soon as he became healthy, he retired from politics and studied Sanskrit, and earned a D.Litt degree in Sanskrit - which is the highest degree in any field.
He used to say - "My life has changed after studying the Sanskrit language! My thirst for knowledge is fulfilled!"

He established Sandipani School in Pune and Kalidas Sanskrit University in Nagpur - of which he also became the first vice-chancellor.
His library was the biggest personal library of any individual person, containing about 52000 books.

His only dream was to have at least one Sanskrit language scholar in every household in India - and no family should suffer from lifestyle diseases like diabetes.
There are three of his motivational health fitness related videos available on youtube!
People of such extraordinary talent have been seen as inadequate in terms of age.
The life of every meritorious, very talented people is not very long.
Shankaracharya, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, and Vivekananda also did not live long!

On June 2, 2004, Shrikant Jichkar died in a horrific road accident in Maharashtra, 60 km from Nagpur.

His work regarding the promotion of Sanskrit language and Holistic health remained incomplete.
Unfortunately, even in India, no one knows about him and the media hardly talks about such a virtuous person whose life can inspire so many youths.

Salute to the mixed personality of such teacher, knowledgeable, enthusiastic personality, doctor, legal expert, administrator, and politician!
