Showing Emotions

when we grow, in age and grace, we usually try to hide our emotions.
We think that showing our emotions is childish and immature.

But yesterday, our master showed us that there is nothing wrong in showing emotions. That it is alright to tell the world how we feel. There is no need to hide it. Maturity of grace is not in  hiding but accepting the facts.

He showed that great responsibilities come with great positions which may sometimes change the way how we treat certain people and interact even in close relationships. We must fulfill our duties and responsibilities and act as is expected even if we do not feel comfortable.

Hotel Inquiry "Are Dogs Welcome at your hotel?"

"Are Dogs Welcome at your hotel?"

A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation.

He wrote: I would very much like to bring my dog with me.
He is well-groomed and very well behaved.
Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me?"

An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who wrote:

SIR: "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bed sheets, silverware or pictures off the walls.

I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly.

And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill.

So yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel.

And, if your dog will vouch for you, we may not require to run a back ground check on you.

The times have changed (Older generation vs Younger) " उंगली पकड़ पकड़ के हमने

उंगली पकड़ पकड़ के हमने चलना जिन्हें सिखाया था

इस दौर में कैसे चलना है , अब बच्चे हमें सिखाते हैं

“Ungali Pakad Pakad ke hum ne chalnaa jinhen sikhaaya tha
Is Daur me kaise chalnaa hai, Ab Bachche hamen Sikhaate hain”

 Translation:

“Whom we taught how to walk, by holding their hands,
Those children now teach us how to ‘walk’ in this new era.”

Every now and then, most parents get frustrated when the children don’t listen to them or don’t do what they are told to do. Especially when they tell parents that their thinking is old; that the times have changed and they should also change with the time. Or worst, when the children try to teach them how to behave or think and act in these new times.

Most parents and elders find it ‘disrespectful’ and think that the new generation children do not have much respect for their elders.

They think they are more experienced and know more since they ‘have been around for much longer’.

As a matter of fact, the new generation is always smarter and ahead of the older generation. They know more. Because they have the advantage of knowing, without much effort, what their parents or previous generations had learned and discovered. They don’t have to experiment or discover everything from the scratch. They also have the time and resources available to them to develop new ideas and theories based upon the experiences of the previous generations. Especially now days, because of the new developments in technology, any information they need is available to them in the ‘palm of their hand’.

They don’t have to depend on the previous generation for the answers.

And they know it.

So it is hard for them to accept everything what the elders say or ask them to do. They not only question it but insist that the parents and the older generation should change and learn the new ways of thinking since the times have changed.

Of-course, this is not easy.

For most elderly people, it’s not so easy to let go everything they know and change their ways of thinking.

The clash occurs when neither side; the older or the newer generation, is willing to give up their stand and accept the other’s point of view.

Perhaps, to lessen the ‘generational gap’, we should learn to compromise and find a mid-point to meet.

Last few weeks have been quite exciting.

First a 3 day Samagam in Boston and then my daughter’s wedding the next day, in the Holy presence of Baba Hardev Singh ji that also seemed like an extension of the Samagam itself. The wedding ceremonies were attended by over 1200 people; the half of the total number of devotees who had come to attend the Samagam for the previous days.

Preparation of these both major events had kept me quite busy, both physically and mentally, and away from the blog.

During next few days, I will try to write about some of the experiences and mixed emotions I had during and after these wonderful events.

Till then…………..

Coins make lot of noise

Coins make lot of noise but the currency notes are silent.

Those who have greater value do not make much noise.

Contended

Contended are not those who have a lot

But those, whose needs are less.

Controlling the Emotions

Whenever the energy of our consciousness is weak, mind takes over and we become emotional.
When the emotions become dominant, we become restless and agitated.
According to the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita, solution is the “Saakshi-Bhaava”; to detach our self from the situation and become an ‘observer’, a witness.

Detach from the sense of being the ‘doer’ or the subject, stand back and simply watch the inner storm pass.

It’s like sitting inside a secured home and watching a storm through the window.

Detached observation withdraws the energy which the emotions require to sustain them.

If we watch our own anger, it dies.
If we watch our own ego, it shatters.
But if we don’t, then it becomes our master.

“Sadaa Saakshi Nirpekshah Sukham Char” (Ashtavakra Gita 15:4)

“By becoming unbiased; ‘Detached Observer’, stay happy and peaceful forever.”    (Ashtavakra Gita 15:4)
