जोआंसू फैल के दरिया हुआ है - Tear that turned into river

वो दाना दांत में अटका हुआ है

English translation:

The tear that spread and turned into a river
       has dripped from my eyes.

That grain which was not written in my destiny
is now stuck between my teeth.

  1. Does this mean that I stole and tried to eat the grain, which is now stuck in my teeth causing a lot of pain, and resulting in many tears?

    1. First of all, according to the rules and structure of the Urdu Ghazal, each Sher or couplet of the Ghazal is supposed to be independent and complete in itself.
So, both these shers are independent and not connected.

Secondly, there is no mention of stealing in this couplet. It simply says "that which was not in the destiny."
The author is saying that one may not be able to achieve or enjoy something completely if it is not in one's destiny (regardless of how it was acquired).
Now, we may or may not agree with this belief that everything is predestined, but this is what the author is trying to present in this couplet.
Thanks for your comment and enquiry.
