Kabeer garv na keejiye dehi dekh saurang
Aaj kaal taj jaahugay jyon kaachuri bhujang
Kabeer garv na keejiye ooncha dekh aavaas
Aaj kaal bhoyen letnaa oopar jaamay ghaas
Kabeer garv na keejiye kaal gahay kar kes
Na jaanay kit maariye kya ghar kya pardes
Kabeer garv na keejiye – rank na hasiye koy
Ajahoon naav samund mein, kya jaana kya hoy
Kabeer eh tan jaayega, sakahu ta lehu bahori
Naangay paanon tay gaye jin kay laakh karor
Kabeer bedaa jarjaraa phootay chhenk hazaar
Haruye haruye tar gaye doobay jin sir bhaar

1. Do not be proud of the beauty of your body.
Sooner or later, you will have to abandon it—
just as a snake sheds its worn-out skin.
2. Do not take pride in your lofty mansion.
One day, you will be buried in the ground,
And grass will grow above you.
3. Do not be arrogant—
One day, the Kaal (time or death) will seize you by the hair.
No one knows where death may strike— at home or in a foreign land.
4. Do not be proud, and do not mock the poor or the weak.
How can you claim to have reached the shore when your boat is still in the middle of the ocean?
Who knows what may happen before the journey ends?”
5. One day, this body will pass away
Do you think you can keep it and not let it go?
Try to hold it back if you can.
Even those who had lakhs of crores (millions) in their possession departed barefoot from this world.
6. The boat of life is worn and fragile, pierced with a thousand holes.
Those who kept themselves light and humble crossed over gently
And those who carried heavy burdens of longings and ego drowned.

The above great verses by Satguru Kabeer ji gently remind us of life’s impermanence and the futility of our pride and arrogance.

Beautiful reminders Jì 🙏
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these verses. The timeless wisdom is applicable to all of us even today.
ReplyDeleteWhen we identify “I” as our body & mind (ego), every gain or success makes us susceptible to developing pride and arrogance.
But when we identify “I” as the soul, we rise above all gain or loss, success or failure, and accept all situations the we face in life with humility and grace.
One reads this and is humbled. Thank you ji
