Saadh-Sangat - in the eyes of Sant Amar Singh ji

                                   Blissful Memories

Vaisakhi Ram ji and Sushil Kumar ji from Patiala used to write Bhajans in the name of Pagal-Sevak and later changed their name to Amar-Sevak.
Their songs were quite famous throughout the Nirankari mission and were sung with great love and enthusiasm. Even today, we hear their Bhajans/Geets many times in the Sangats.

Once, they wrote a Punjabi song.
The words were -
"Eh Sant pyaaray nay - eh Rubb day dularay nay - ehna nun karo pranaam"
This song was well-liked by all.

Once some new seekers came to the Sunday Satsang, and they were very impressed by the songs of Pagal-Sevak ji. After the Sangat, they invited them to their Satsang and requested that they sing some Bhajans over there also.

Pagal-Sevak ji accepted their invitation and went to their Satsang and sang a few Bhajans.
Everybody was sitting in a circular circle on the floor and were enjoying the Bhajans with great love and reverence.
A gentleman requested - please sing that song -
"Eh Sant pyaaray nay - eh Rubb day dularay nay - ehna nun karo pranaam"

Pagal-Sevak ji, very humbly asked, who among you is the Sant?
Please have them sit in front of us so that we can sing this song addressing them.

They said: "No. We all are Paapi- sinful creatures here.
There is no Sant here. All are seekers - we are all Sevadaars - servants."

Pagal ji folded his hands and said - Sorry, then we cannot sing that song here.
Whom should we point to and say - 'Eh Sant pyaaray nay (here is the Sant)?

When Sant Amar Singh ji came to know about this incident, he mentioned it several times in the Sangats and said:
Maybe it was a Sangat, but it was not a Saadh-Sangat.
Because Saadh-Sangat is a place where a sage - a Sant is seated - Where there is no Saadhu or a Sant, how can it be called Saadh-Sangat?
Where all are sinners or curious or servants - Sevadaars - then it should be called a Sangat of the sinners, or seekers and Sevadaars - of servants - but not Saadh-Sangat."

He said: if not all, then at least one Sadhu - one Sant has to be there.
Without a Saadhu, it cannot become a form of Saadh-Sangat. "

Sant Amar Singh ji - whom everyone used to call Pita ji with love and reverence - used to see and analyze everything very deeply - profoundly - and explain the same in the Saadh Sangats.

It is my great privilege that I got the opportunity to be in his company - to receive his guidance and to serve him for some time while I was posted in Govt. College for women Patiala.

    1. I am sure you can find many if you look around with an open heart and mind.
And at the same time, you can find many faults in the highly respected Saints of the old times of every religion as well - including Gurus and Avtars.

  4. We always tend to give so much importance - so much glory to the past heroes and tend to neglect the present ones - and keep on hoping that the future will bring some better people.
The psychological reason is that there is no competition or jealousy with past or future saints, mentors, and heroes. But it is hard to accept and respect those who are present.

  5. I miss the love I always received at my local Satsang. I hugged everyone of them and touched their feet before leaving each gathering.
