When Socrates Cried

There is a folklore – a popular legend in some Sufi traditions:
One young boy was crying sitting at the sea shore.
Socrates saw him and asked why was he crying?
The boy said that he was trying to contain the sea in his cup, but he was not able to do so.
Socrates sat down next to him and also started to cry.
When asked why was he crying?
Socrates replied: I have been trying to fill the whole Gyana – Parmaatma* -
whatever there is to be known about everything - in the small cup of my mind.
I am crying because I have not been able to do so either.

Remember:
We cannot bring sun in our room - only the light.
It’s pointless to waste time and energy in trying to bring the sun into the room - the light is
enough for us to see everything clearly.
With the light of Gyana, we can see all we need to see around us - but sometimes we get
so entangled in the never-ending arguments of intellectual mumbo-jumbo that we forget
to enjoy the bliss of simplicity.
Why do we need to make everything too complicated?
