One evening, just as a shopkeeper was about to close his
shop, a dog came in, holding a bag in his mouth.
He walked to the shopkeeper
and placed the bag on the floor right in front of the counter. Out of
curiosity,
the shopkeeper opened the bag and saw that it had a grocery list and
some money for the items.
The shopkeeper took the money and placed the groceries
in the bag.
The dog picked up the bag and walked out.
Surprised, the shopkeeper quickly closed the shop and
started to follow the dog to see who the owner of
such an intelligent dog was.
The dog waited at a bus stop, and boarded the next bus. The
shopkeeper too hopped on.
The dog went to the conductor and lowered his neck to
reveal some money and his address tied to the collar.
The conductor took the money
and tied the ticket on to the collar.
When his stop came, the dog moved to the front gate, wagged
his tail to the bus driver - got off when the bus stopped, and proceeded to his
house. The shopkeeper, who was watching all this intently, followed the dog.
Upon the reaching the house, the dog knocked on the door with his paws. The shopkeeper was absolutely
amazed seeing all this!
But then - to his surprise, the owner opened the door angrily and started beating the dog with a stick!
The shopkeeper was stunned.
He intervened and questioned the dog's owner why he was being so cruel to the dog.
"Why are you hitting such an intelligent dog who works so hard for you?" He asked.
The owner replied: "I was taking a nap and this stupid
dog woke me up!
Couldn’t he take the keys with him?"
The shopkeeper thought - that's the truth of life...
There is no end to people's expectations.
No matter how many
good deeds you perform, people will pick up on your one small mistake
and start
slandering you! They quickly forget everything you have ever done for them!
In the great Bhagvad Geeta also, lord Krishna says:
"Keep doing
your work - without expecting anything in return...(from others)."
People will never be satisfied.
