If there is turbulence in the sea - Agar dariya me hal-chal ho

        Agar dariya me hal-chal ho to kashti bach bhi sakti hai
         Magar kashti me hal-chal ho to kashti doob jaati hai

Hal-Chal   = Turbulence, Turmoil, Disturbance, Disorder, Disruption

Translation:

If there is a storm - if there is turbulence in the river or sea, the chances are that the boat might survive.

But if there is turbulence in the boat itself -

then it may not reach the shore. It may drown.

Interpretation:

It's possible that the turbulence and turmoils of the world may not disturb the Gyanis.

They can continue their spiritual journey without getting affected by them - they can still attain their destination.

But if the worldly turmoils and frenzies enter and stay in the mind of a Gyani,

then it would be hard to achieve the goal of Liberation.

Meditation and Sumiran

It is said that the key to meditation or Sumiran is to concentrate - to focus on one single point.
The question is:
What should be the point of our focus - and how to achieve it.

A point is a dominant center - the principal characteristic of perspective - the main point of an idea - of beliefs and concepts.
It is the very essence of everything.
Just like a definite point in space helps us to navigate in the right direction to reach our destination, our point of view determines our outlook and the goal we want to achieve.
In order to gain knowledge and pass the exams, a student needs to focus on his studies.
A businessman needs to concentrate on his work to make his business flourish.
In any field of life, we can achieve the desired outcomes faster by focusing on a single point of interest.
But usually, our mind is dispersed over a wide area of interests and attractions.
Our thoughts are mostly scattered all over the place. We easily get influenced by others and get disoriented.
We get confused and find ourselves unable to move in one single direction. Our energies are in disarray and dispersed.
The result is perplexity, unhappiness, and helplessness.

On the other hand, the one whose mind is focused on a single point gets desired results.
He achieves his goals and stays happy and peaceful.

The same is true with meditation.
When our thoughts are dispersed - if the mind keeps wandering in all directions, we can not focus on Sumiran or one single point of concentration. We become restless - and sometimes even upset and agitated.
The more we try to focus, the more restless we become.
Because, as long as there are some thoughts in our mind - some disturbances - worries and anxieties will also remain.

The key to meditation, therefore, is not to focus - but to become free of all thoughts.
Peace is a state of no thoughts and desires.

However, becoming free of thoughts is not that easy.
The human mind is always busy - always thinking of something. It keeps on chasing everything that appears before it.
Even during most parts of our sleep, the mind keeps on working.

Therefore, in the beginning - the Saints and Sages, Scriptures, and the Gurus direct us to meditate upon a single point - on a Mantra or a phrase - or even an image. Singing and chanting a name can also help.
But eventually, one has to go beyond everything -
Beyond Naam and Roop - beyond names, forms, shapes, or words - and even thoughts.

But first, our mind should move from Everything to Something.
And then finally - from Something to Nothing.

Poverty taught these children....

           ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Gurbat nay sikhaa di hai in bachon ko Tehzeeb
     Sehmay huye rehtay hain sharaarat nahin kartay
            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Poverty has taught these children such manners
     They always live in fear - never do any mischief

Did not value the time in College

Sabaq umr-e-ravaan ka dil-nasheen honay nahin paataa
Hamesha bhooltay jaatay hain jo kuchh yaad kartay hain

Na jaani qadr teri umr-e-rafta ham nay college mein
Nikal aatay hain aansu ab tujhay jab yaad kartay hain

Dil-e-Nashaad rotaa hai zubaan uff  kar nahin sakti
Koyi suntaa nahin yoon be-navaa fariyaad kartay hain

Adab taleem ka jauhar hai - Zevar hai javaani ka
Vahi shaagird hain jo khidmat-e-ustaad kartay hain

Zamanay ka Moallim imtihaan un ka nahin kartaa
Jo aankhen khol kar ye dars-e-hasti yaad kartay hain
                            " Brij Narayan Chakbast "

Sabaq                   = Lesson
Umr-e-Ravaan    = Continually moving age - Increasing age, Fleeting life
Dil-Nasheen   = Residing, staying in heart, Occupant of heart
 Umr-e-Rafta     = Past life - the time of life that has passed
Dil-e-Nashaad    = Unhappy heart
Be-Navaa             = Without words, without sound
                                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                       Translation
Unable to grasp the lessons of fleeting age
Keep forgetting everything that we want to remember.
Did not value the time when we were in college
Tears come out now while thinking about the old times.
The unhappy heart cries, but the tongue cannot utter a word.
No one hears the appeals of the heart - because they are made without words - without sound.
Modesty is the jewel of education and knowledge - It's the ornament of youth
True disciples are those who sincerely respect and serve their teachers.
The wise teacher of time does not test those -
who remember the secrets of life and keep their eyes open.
                       Review - Reflection
With growing age, life teaches us so many things.
Every moment we learn something new - but it does not stay in the heart.
It doesn't become a part of our life.
We should try to apply the lessons we learn every day.
We should try to implement them in our day-to-day life.
And now is the time to do it.
There is no use in regretting and repenting later when the time is gone.
We must value the present time and use it properly and wisely.
We all learn from many people in our life - from many Ustaads, Masters, Saints, and Gurus.
But usually, we forget them after some time.
However, good people always remember them.
It is the quality of great people that they always remember and respect those from whom they have ever learned something in their life.
They never forget or disrespect them.
Courtesy, politeness, and respect - are the jewels of wisdom and Gyana.
Gyan has no value if there is no modesty and humility.
It is only through humility that wisdom shines forth.
It is only through modesty that one can help illuminate others.
Those who understand and remember these values of life -
Those who keep their eyes open - succeed in life.
न जानी क़द्र तेरी हम ने कॉलेज में
सबक़ उम्र-ए-रवाँ का दिल-नशीं होने नहीं पाता
हमेशा भूलते जाते हैं जो कुछ याद करते हैं
न जानी क़द्र तेरी उम्र-ए-रफ़्ता हम ने कॉलेज में
निकल आते हैं आँसू अब तुझे जब याद करते हैं
दिल-ए-नाशाद रोता है ज़बाँ उफ़ कर नहीं सकती
कोई सुनता नहीं  यूँ   बे-नवा फ़रियाद करते हैं
अदब ता'लीम का जौहर है ज़ेवर है जवानी का
वही शागिर्द हैं जो ख़िदमत-ए-उस्ताद करते हैं
ज़माने का मोअल्लिम इम्तिहाँ उन का नहीं करता
जो आँखें खोल कर ये दर्स-ए-हस्ती याद करते हैं
                    " ब्रिज नारायण चकबस्त "
उम्र-ए-रवाँ      =  बढ़ती हुई उम्र
उम्र-ए-रफ़्ता   = बीती हुई ज़िंदगी
बे-नवा      = बे-आवाज़
मोअल्लिम   =  उस्ताद - आलिम
दर्स-ए-हस्ती    - हस्ती, आस्तित्व जीवन का सबक़
बढ़ती हुई उम्र के साथ ज़िंदगी हमें कितना कुछ सिखाती है।
पल पल पर कुछ नया सीखने को मिलता है - लेकिन दिल में टिकता नहीं हैं।
वो हमारी ज़िंदगी का हिस्सा नहीं बन पाता।
चाह कर भी याद नहीं रख पाते - जो याद रखना चाहते हैं वो भूल जाता है।
जवानी में - स्कूल और कॉलेज के ज़माने में समय की क़ीमत नहीं जानी।
अक़्सर बहुत से लोग जवानी में वक़्त की क़दर नहीं करते
और फिर समय निकल जाने के बाद पछताते हैं  - रोते हैं -
लेकिन फिर वो समय हाथ नहीं आता।
उदास दिल रोता है  - लेकिन ज़ुबां कुछ कह नहीं पाती
बे-आवाज़, बिना शब्दों की फ़रयाद कोई सुन नहीं पाता
अदब और आदर-सत्कार - शिक्षा एवं ज्ञान के जौहर हैं - हीरे हैं।
नम्रता जवानी का ज़ेवर है।
वो ज्ञान बेकार है जिसमे नम्रता का भाव नहीं है।
नम्रता से ही ज्ञान चमकता है और दूसरों को रौशनी प्रदान कर सकता है।
असली शागिर्द - अच्छा विद्यार्थी वही है जो अपने उस्तादों और गुरुजनों की सेवा - ख़िदमत और आदर-सत्कार करता है।
हर व्यक्ति अपने जीवन में बहुत से लोगों से - बहुत से उस्ताद और गुरुजनों से बहुत कुछ सीखता है।
लेकिन कुछ समय के बाद अक़्सर सब लोग उन को भूल जाते हैं।
लेकिन अच्छे लोग हमेशा उन्हें याद रखते हैं -
अच्छे लोगों का ये गुण है कि जिन से कभी कुछ सीखा हो, वो हमेशा उनका मान और सत्कार करते हैं।
 उन्हें भूलते नहीं।
जो जीवन के इन मूल्यों को समझते हैं और याद रखते हैं  -
जो अपनी आँखें खुली रखते हैं  - वो जीवन में कभी धोखा नहीं खाते।
