It's all about perspective.
The same object or the same incident can be seen differently by different people.
A happy person would see the drops of morning dew on the flower petals as beautiful pearls while a sad, crying person might relate them to his own sorrow and perceive them as tears - thinking that nature is also crying with him.
A poet looks at the full moon and starts writing and singing a beautiful poem with fancy, flowery words to describe its beauty while a scientist looks at it simply as a huge rock - a mass of matter orbiting the earth.
We might be looking at the same object or same event under the same circumstances, and yet, we might perceive it differently than the person standing right next to us. Because everything is perceived according to the previous knowledge, understanding, and personal experiences of the observer.
Therefore, one of the most important tools in getting along with other people is to remember that they might not be thinking in the same way as we do.
Instead of arguing and trying to authenticate and prove our own point of view, we should recognize and accept that their experience might be different than ours.
We may hold on to our views but at the same time, we should respect everyone else's views as well.
After all, besides knowledge, we all live on certain beliefs, concepts, hopes, and expectations in our own ways.

ReplyDeleteAs per your post, both scientists and poets can gain from sharing their points of view about the moon and everything else..
