General, Open permission

                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Note:
जोश मलीहाबादी की गिनती इस युग के महानतम शायरों में की जाती है
और उनका नाम शायरी और अदीब की दुनिया में बड़े सम्मान से लिया जाता है।
Insaan kay Lahoo ko Piyo - It's openly permitted to kill
                         Insaan kay lahoo ko peeyo izn-e-aam hai
                         Angoor kee shraab ka peena Haraam hai
                                                    " Josh Malihabadi "
Izn-e-aam    =   General, Open  permission
Haraam       =   Forbidden
The poets are very sensitive by nature.
Their heart screams when they see the vicious, inhumane incidents happening in the world around them
Their keen eyes observe every event and incident very deeply -
and they try to express their feelings and sentiments in their poetry -
either in a philosophical manner or in the form of sarcasm and satire.
According to the poet -
Drinking alcohol is considered Haram in scriptures and religious laws -
It is forbidden to drink alcohol.
But it seems that drinking human blood is not forbidden -
that killing helpless innocent people is openly permitted.
Note:
Josh Malihabadi (1898 - 1982) is considered one of the greatest poets of this era.
He is highly respected in the field of Poetry and literature.
ज्ञान घटे नर मूढ़ की संगत
ज्ञान  घटे नर मूढ़ की संगत
ध्यान घटे विषयन  भरमाए
तेज घटे बहु क्रोध किए *
सुख चैन घटे ईरखा उरझाए
लोभ आवे तो मोह घट जावे **
मित्र घटें निज महिमा गाए
आयु घटे अनुचित भोजन स्यों
बुद्धि घटे बिन पढ़े पढ़ाए
आलस स्यों व्योपार घटे
अभिमान घटे संताप के आए ***
प्रेम घटे नित ही कुछ माँगत
मान घटे नित पर-घर जाए
                2.
धन स्यों दुःख दरिद्र मिटे -और
रोग मिटे कुछ औषधि खाए
तिमिर मिटे जब दीप जले
सब वैर मिटें जब मत्सर जाए
ब्रह्म मिले तो भ्रम मिटें
सब पाप कटें हरि नाम ध्याए
संतुष्टि से लोभ मिटे -
अभिमान मिटे जब ज्ञान दृढ़ाए
कहे 'राजन ' सुख चैन मिले
जब छोड़ अनेक इक स्यों चित लाए ****
                 " राजन सचदेव "
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jealousy

                                        English Translation

Knowledge and wisdom are decreased by keeping the company of foolish people - people who lack proper knowledge & understanding.
Too many desires and longings diminish one's attention - and cause disorder in the mind.

Too much anger diminishes one's peace of mind - and subsequently their aura - radiance & elegance.
Joy and peace are decreased when envy is aroused.

Affections and relationships are lost when misled by excessive greed.
(Even among siblings and close relatives, love and affection disappear when greed takes over - Fights often break out within families when it comes to dividing the inheritance of parents and ancestors.)
Friends are lost by constantly singing one's own praises.
Even good friends abandon them if one keeps singing one's own praises all the time.

Improper diet lessens life expectancy.
Knowledge is decreased when one stops learning new things and teaching others.

Laziness causes a business to decline.
Sorrow - grief and misery subside one's pride and dignity.

Affection subsides by asking or demanding something every day -
Respect decreases by visiting someone's home every day - uninvited.

                                                         2.
Sorrow and poverty are eradicated by wealth
The disease is cured with Medicine.

The darkness disappears when the lamp is lit
All enmity ends when jealousy goes away.

When Brahm - the Supreme Being is realized, all delusions and misconceptions disappear.
All sins and wrongdoings are eliminated by remembering and meditating upon Hari Naam - the name of Almighty God.

Contentment eradicates the greed -
When Gyan (True knowledge) strengthens, the ego subsequently vanishes itself.

Says Rajan - One can achieve happiness and peace by focusing and concentrating on One - instead of many.

Our mind usually wanders in all directions -
we want to own every desirable object we see in the world around us.
However, it's not possible to get everything we want, and we become sad when things do not happen the way we want them to.

When we meditate upon the One Almighty Lord - our mind stops to wander.
It becomes sturdy and stable.
Many unnecessary desires and longings are eliminated - and we can achieve more peace and happiness in life.

A Free Mind

A free mind is a mind that is open to everything -

and attached to nothing

The one who is always receptive to new ideas -

to genuine, proven doctrines –

and is ready to accept them.

Instead of remaining bound by old and conservative beliefs, concepts, and ideas -

and tries to know the truth by weighing everything based on logic and facts.

If you can keep your head

           A Great Advice to Sons:
                    (Daughters- Children)
                             By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when& Daughters all about you
  Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
  But make allowance for their doubting too
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
  Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
  And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
  If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
  And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
  Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
  And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
  And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
  And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
  To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
  Except the Will - which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
  Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
  If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
  With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
  And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
                 Rudyard Kipling

No happiness without Contentment- Bin Santosh Na Kam Nasahin- Bin Santokh nahin ko Rajai

           Binu Santosh na kaam nasaahin
           Kaam achhat sukh sapanehun naahin
           Ram bhajan binu mitahin ke kaamaa
           Thal biheen taru kabahun ke jaamaa?
                                     "Ram Charit Manas"

Meaning:
Without contentment, there is no end to desires.
And as long as desires & lust remain, one cannot find happiness even in dreams.
How can desires be ended without meditation - without worship of Ram - the Almighty God?
Can a tree grow anywhere without soil?
                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there is no contentment - a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment in the mind - then new desires will keep taking birth at every moment - the craving and greed to achieve more and more will never end.
Tulsidas ji says that a tree needs to be rooted in the ground to grow and remain stable.
Similarly, to obtain satisfaction and contentment - the mind also needs a solid ground - a strong foundation.
And that solid base and foundation is meditation and remembrance of God.
Without meditation and worship of God, cravings do not go away, and a feeling of contentment does not arise in the mind.
The more we concentrate on remembering God, the more satisfaction and feelings of fulfillment will increase in our minds.
Gurbani also gives the same message:
"Bina Santokh nahin kou Raajai - Supan manorath birthay sab kaajai
   Naam Rang Sarab Sukh hoye - Badbhaagi kisai prapati hoy"
                                                    (Sukhmani Sahib)
Meaning: there can never be fulfillment and happiness without contentment.
And contentment and happiness can only be achieved with the Naam - by meditating upon God's name.
                                         "Rajan Sachdeva "
बिनु संतोष न काम नसाहीं -- बिना संतोख नहीं कोउ राजै
               बिनु संतोष न काम नसाहीं।
               काम अछत सुख सपनेहुँ नाहीं॥
               राम भजन बिनु मिटहिं कि कामा।
               थल बिहीन तरु कबहुँ कि जामा॥
                                 राम चरित मानस
अर्थात:  संतोष के बिना कामनाओं का नाश नहीं होता।
और कामनाओं के रहते स्वप्न में भी सुख नहीं मिल  सकता।
क्या राम अर्थात परमेश्वर के ध्यान एवं भजन के बिना कामनाएँ मिट सकतीं हैं?
 - क्या बिना धरती के भी कहीं पेड़ उग सकता है?
यदि मन में संतोष न हो तो हर क्षण नई नई कामनाएं जन्म लेती रहती हैं -
और अधिक से अधिक प्राप्त करने की लालसा और लोभ कभी समाप्त नहीं होता।
तुलसीदास जी कहते हैं कि जैसे एक पेड़ को उगने और स्थिर रहने के लिए धरती का आधार चाहिए
उसी तरह मन में संतोष लाने के लिए हमें भी किसी आधार की ज़रुरत पड़ती है
और वो आधार है प्रभु का ध्यान और सुमिरन।
परमेश्वर के ध्यान एवं भजन के बिना कामनाएँ नहीं मिटतीं और मन में संतोष का भाव पैदा नहीं होता।
प्रभु सुमिरन में जितना अधिक ध्यान लगेगा - मन में उतना ही संतोष बढ़ता चला जाएगा।
गुरबाणी भी यही संदेश देती है :
" बिना संतोख नहीं कोउ राजै  - सुपन मनोरथ बिरथे सब काजै
   नाम रंग सरब सुख होय - बड़भागी किसै परापति होय "
                                                   (सुखमनी साहिब)
अर्थात संतोष के बिना कभी तृप्ति नहीं हो सकती
और नाम के रंग से ही मन में संतोष एवं सुख प्राप्त हो सकता है।
और ये नाम का रंग सौभाग्य से ही प्राप्त होता है।
