The moving Lighthouse

Crashing on the rocks of my ego...
Are the waves of restless emotion
This is a time for faith my friends;
This is a time for unwavering devotion.

Imagine a boat, a very big boat
All it needs to sink is one hole
We need to remove this sinking feeling
We are all part of the One soul.

Nothing moves without His will
He's the sails, the wind, the deck;
The ocean, the waves, the storm, the boat,
The travelers and even the wreck.

It's all as per the script and plot
and here is the secret to cope...
Remember that you are One with this still;
Observe through the telescope-

Watch on as everything unfolds...
Be calm and keep others calm
You can but warn from a vantage point
And try to keep others from harm

A lighthouse ensures that we can see
The rocks, the path, the route
We must become lighthouses too
If we wish to truly contribute

I recall with fondness, my Lord, My Guide,
Who gave me light and whose body has died...
He lives on, in my memory bank
I use this poem - as a way to thank

How he did not rest, I was not worthwhile,
Yet He saved me, He was just so mobile.
Lighthouses don't move, yet He did!
I guess He cared for every ship, so 'Sid...

You need to move now and learn to give,
He set the example, on how to live.
Till my last breath, may I love from my core;
I'm blessed that I witnessed, your feet on my shore.

Jo Jo Deesay - So So Rogi

When we look around, wherever we see and whoever we see, we find that everyone is afflicted with some kind of disease; physical or emotional. Whereas the physical ailments are mostly received from somewhere or someone; through an incidence or accident from the outer world, the emotional disorders related to excessive greed, attachment, expectations, jealousy or ego etc. are brought upon by ourselves from within.

Gautam Buddha said:
There is suffering in the world.
If there is suffering, then there must be a cause.
If there is suffering, and there is a cause behind it, then there must be a solution for it.

To be cured, to get rid of any physical ailment, we seek outside help; from a physician, a doctor. Similarly, we might need some outside help from some wise people or the Guru to keep our mind and spirit well-balanced and healthy.

To get rid of a physical ailment, three things have to be there.
Patient, Doctor and the Medicine.

The first and foremost thing is that the patient has to realize and admit that he or she is sick. How can a doctor help if the patient does not disclose the symptoms; if he does not even believe that he is sick and needs help or wants to be cured?

So the first step towards cure is to realize and admit that “I am sick”.

Though the doctor’s role is extremely important, we know that taking proper medicine and keeping the appropriate precautions are sole responsibilities of the patient.

However, in the matters of mind and spirituality, we tend to think differently.

We tend to believe that going to the Guru is all we need to do. That he or she will take care of everything for us and we don’t need to do anything. We don’t want to take any responsibility. First of all, we totally deny that we have any greed, anger, jealousy or ego, but by believing that we have the Guru who will eventually take care of everything, we might even become more greedy, angry, jealous and egotistic.
Buddha said “No one can walk your path”.
It is our journey and we have to walk it ourselves to complete it successfully.
No one else can do it for us.

A Beautiful Zen quote

"In Zen, we don't find the answers

          We lose the questions."

Are Justifications Necessary ?

Humans are curious by nature. Since the beginning, man looked around at the surroundings and was curious to know how the things are the way they are. Why things happen the way they do; why the sun rises in the morning and goes down in the evening, why does it rain, or why the seasons change etc.

Today, with the advanced knowledge of science, we understand a lot about the nature, our surroundings and why things happen in certain ways.

But still, when some incidents happen that are beyond our comprehension, then we become confused, and try to create our own logics to make some sense of it.

On one hand, we constantly talk about ‘Unconditional-Surrender and Acceptance’ and yet, we try to find some justifications to accept the truth to console ourselves.

Perhaps ‘Ignorance is our predominant mode in life’.

If we ever find ourselves defending a position, or justifying an incidence, it means we have not been able to accept the ‘will of God’ or the ‘destiny’.

And if we start campaigning to justify to others, explaining how and why it happened by giving our own strange logics, it means fear has conquered our own minds and hearts. It means we are weak and feel defeated; that our defenses are up because we are scared. It’s the fear that is in control.

So we try to come up with some self-created strange logics by manipulating the truth. We tend to scrutinize each small detail of the incidence and try to find some events that can be explained in a peculiar way, take the partial phrases out of context, twist them and explain them in our own way; to prove our own way of thinking.

But every one may not agree and be willing to accept that logic.

We tend to forget that ‘every logic may have a counter-logic’.
Every answer we give, may raise more new questions.

Are justifications really necessary?

Do we have to justify everything, every incidence, every happening?

Accepting, not resisting is the key to attain peace.

“Huqam Razaayi chalnaa Nanak likheya naal”

           "हुक़म रज़ाई चलना नानक लिखया नाल "

Until we learn to accept the reality without any justification, we may not be at peace.

नींद तो दर्द के बिस्तर पे Neend to Dard ke Bistar pe bhi

नींद तो दर्द के बिस्तर पे भी आ सकती है
उनकी आगोश में सर हो ये ज़रूरी तो नहीं

Neend to Dard ke Bistar pe bhi Aa sakti hai
Un ki Aagosh mai Sar ho, ye zaroori to nahin

Ideas Become Reality

Once-upon-a-time there were no bicycles, not a single one.

Then from out of the blue someone had the idea, like a spark of inspiration in the night, it became manifest in the mind and imagination of a single human being.

Today; billions of people ride bicycles all over the world.

The potential for this concept of riding on a device with two wheels didn't exist before, it was only a dream.

Once an idea becomes a possibility, it reaches the mass consciousness of humanity and becomes possible; when enough people connect with it, it goes from fantasy to reality.

The same goes for peace, when enough human beings have peace in their hearts and minds, it will become a reality and be as common place as the bicycle.

Can I have this dance?

Excuse me Nirankar - can I have this dance?
Just the chance to whirl in your expanse?

You lead, I'll follow and we'll dance all night....
I don't know any moves... but we will be alright.

I'm not trying to impress You, I can't impress...
I'm not worthy of your grace, I must confess;

But I've found out who I am and I can't sit still...
I want to dance with my beloved and have my fill..

For if anyone - had found such a treasure:
Timeless, Infinite, the One you can't measure...

Then they too, would want to dance like me;
Romance and stay in a trance... like me

You are in everything and everyone...
You will never end and You never begun

You can't be destroyed, You can't be moved...
Yet my silly ego, wanted your existence proved

You do nothing and yet everything is done with ease
You dance in my thoughts and You do as you please

I've wasted too much time, but now I know
There is no where else that I need to go

There is nothing else that I need to do
There is no one else - there is only You!

The universe expands and yet You still contain
So then how can I fathom You with my brain?

I can't and I won't, I just ask for this dance
Just the chance to whirl in your expanse!

सवाल - जवाब Sawaal - Jawaab

वो सवाल पूछते हैं  - मगर शर्त ये भी है
कि जवाब उनकी मर्ज़ी का ही होना चाहिए

Change is inevitable..But......

Change is inevitable.

When we grow, we automatically change.

Our bodies change. Our thoughts change; our feelings and habits change.

With time, every individual, institution and organization, system and order and their ways of working require change.

If we fear change, how will we be able to grow?

We should not be afraid of the 'change'.

But at the same time, we must see - analyze in which direction the 'change' is taking us; for the betterment or to the contrary?

By changing the path, are we getting closer to the destination or going away from it?

Is the change helping us to become more spiritual and humble or more materialistic, exhibitionists and egotistic?

Are we becoming servers of humanity in the name of God and humanness or for a corporation?

We must keep a watch on ourselves; as an individual and as an institution as well.

Two Most Vulnerable Stages in Spiritual Life

There are two stages in life when one needs to be very careful.

Just like a tree is quite vulnerable when it’s very young, and when it grows extremely tall; in either case it can be uprooted easily.

Similarly, both the stages are quite vulnerable in spirituality also. In the beginning, one may find this path quite difficult or boring and quit. Some people might easily get influenced by others and become confused.

And secondly, when we become over-confidant and start thinking that we know everything and become egotistic.

In both the situations, we may get deviated from the right path and fail to achieve the desired goal.
