Jio Supna aru Pekhanaa

One by one, the great figures of the past are leaving us.
Those who once dazzled in their time, with brilliance and power, and whose names carried weight and reverence, are slowly fading into the folds of memory.

And one day, I too will depart in the same way.
For a brief moment, my absence may sting a few hearts; some sweet-and-sour memories may linger in their hearts, but soon everything will return to normal.
The dust of time will cover everything, and like a dream, I will be forgotten too.

While I was thinking about this (the above), suddenly these lines from Gurbani came to my mind:

                "Jio supna aru pekhana aisay jag kau jaan;
                  In mai kachhu saacho nahin Nanak binu Bhagwaan."

(Know this world to be like a dream and a stage show;
O Nanak, there is nothing truly real in it, except God.)

The world is like a dream.
My existence today will, tomorrow, become a memory -
a dream.
The feeling of my being — my ego, every sound and stir that marks my presence — will slowly dissolve into the vast ocean of time.

For a few moments, someone may feel a small pang - some sorrow; a few bitter & sweet memories will drift in people’s hearts for a while —and then everything will return to normal.
The dust of time covers everything.
Memories also arrive like brief guests and then depart.
Just as dreams vanish the moment we open our eyes in the morning, so too memories fade away gradually.

When someone leaves, neither the world nor does any work in the world stops.
Very soon, everything returns to normal - just like before.

Therefore, the question worth pondering is:
If the final destination is to fade away, then what is the meaning of all this vain pride and competition that we have?

  4. Well said Professor Sahib. Think adage " FLOW WITH TIME" is equally relevant. However, ones blessed with Guru Gyaan are equipped with requisite realisation and vices like EGO n Rat Race mindset don't have that impact. Enlightened souls live in "present"
