Teen pehar to beet gaye bas ek pehar hee baaki hai
Jeevan haathon say phisal gaya bas khaali mutthi baaki hai
Jag say ham nay kya paaya yah lekha jokha bahut kiya
Is jag nay ham say kya paaya hai ab ye gintee baaki hai
Is bhaag-daud kee duniya mein ham ko ik pal ka hosh nahin
Vaisay to jeevan sukhmay hai par phir bhi kyon santosh nahin
Sab kuchh paaya jeevan mein ichhayen phir bhi baaki hain
Kya yoon hee jeevan beetega, kya saansen yoon hee khatm hongi
Kya sadaa hee duhkh aur peeda mein ye aankhen yoon hee nam hongi
Man mein chhupay huye in prashno ke uttar bhi baaki hain
Meri daulat meri shohrat, meri khushiyaan, meray sapnay
Mera ghar aur meri duniya - meray bachay, meray apnay
Main meri kay bhram jaal say chhutnaa bhi abhi baaki hai
Teen pehar to beet gaye bas ek pehar hee baaki hai
Jeevan haathon say phisal gaya bas khaali mutthi baaki hai

English translation:
Three quarters have passed; only one quarter is left.
Life has slipped through the hands — only the empty fist is left.
What we gained from the world
The account of gains from the world has always been kept.
But what this world gained from me — that count is still pending.
In this relentless race of the world, never have a still moment with awareness
Though life is filled with comforts, why is there no contentment?
Life has provided everything needed, and yet desires remain unfulfilled.
Will life just drift away like this? Will breath just fade and cease like this?
Will tears forever fill these eyes, with sorrow and no peace?
Will tears forever fill these eyes, with sorrow and no peace?
These questions buried in the heart are still left unanswered.
My wealth, my fame, my joys, my dreams,
My home and my world — my children, my loved ones —
Breaking free from this web of “I & mine” is still pending.
Three quarters have passed; only one quarter is left.
Life has slipped through the hands — what is left is only the empty fist.
