I had the privilege of knowing him personally from his early youth - from his school days - when he was a student at Yadvindra Public School in Patiala. I often visited him in the hostel to deliver messages, food, or small gifts, sent by Rajmata Ji and Sant Amar Singh Ji of Patiala.
Even as a young student, it was known that he would be the next Satguru.
Therefore, whenever I went to visit him, knowing he was the next Satguru, I always did a dandvat namaskar to him, just as I had seen Bhapa Ram Chand Ji and Sant Amar Singh Ji do.
However, he would always ask me not to do that, especially when he was with his school friends or playing outside.
“Please don’t do this,” he’d say.
But I always humbly and respectfully declined, saying, “How can I not pay you the due respect you deserve?”
Once, when I met him years later in Delhi and greeted him the same way, he smiled and gently said, “Look... you’re a Gyan Pracharak now, and I am nothing. It doesn’t seem right.”
I was deeply touched by his humility.
There are many such personal, blissful memories from the time I spent with him—each one holds a special place in my heart and will always be cherished.
One of his most remarkable qualities was forgiveness.
After the tragic assassination of his father, Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji, he responded not with anger but with compassion.
He famously said, “No revenge—donate blood, don’t shed it.”
He declared April 24th, the day of his father’s martyrdom, as the Day of Human Unity and Blood Donation.
Although the core philosophy of the Nirankari Mission emphasizes the worship of Nirankar—the Formless, Almighty Supreme Power—many devotees were naturally drawn to Baba Hardev Singh Ji’s physical presence because of his radiant personality and deeply loving nature. His calm demeanor, kind smile, and magnetic charm made it easy for everyone to feel a personal connection with him.
Yet, his teachings always redirected the devotee’s attention toward the Almighty - Formless Nirankar.
Baba Hardev Singh Ji’s legacy isn’t confined to the past. His lifelong commitment to promoting oneness, love, and spiritual awareness will always be remembered.
His message of love, peace, and unity continues to guide people across the world— and will do so for generations to come.
