There is nothing more certain than the fact that the world continuously
keeps on changing. It always has and always will. The ‘world’, in Sanskrit, is
known as ‘Jagat’, which literally means ‘constantly-changing’.
We cannot stop it from changing. We cannot alter the
changes. All we can do is ‘accept the change’. Accepting, and not resisting
this fundamental principle of the world is the key to peace and happiness.
Since beginning, philosophers from all over the world have
tried to explain this fact in their own different ways. Such as:
1. Everything is in God’s hands. Accept His will.
2.
Everything happens according to one’s own ‘Karma’.
Accept the outcome of your Karma and move on.
3.
Everything happens for ‘good’. Accept the change
and hope for something better.
4.
Be positive and accept the change because the
positive attitude will bring better results.
5.
Some believe in some kind of a ‘higher-power’ that
controls the world and our lives and others think that everything happens in an
order and randomly as well. Since we cannot control everything, we might as
well accept it. Since we cannot stop it if there is going to be a snow storm, then
what is the point in complaining about it.
No matter how we perceive it, the bottom line is ‘acceptance’.
But, if nothing is in our control, then does it mean that we
should not do anything; just sit and watch, and wait to see what happens? Then
what is the role of our own free will?
I think, just as the Bhagvad Gita says, doing the best we
can; to the best of our abilities, and accepting the outcome, and knowing what
we can and cannot do, are the most important factors for living a peaceful and
happy life.
“O’ God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference”
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference”
‘Rajan Sachdeva’
