Self-Respect vs Arrogance

Never allow arrogance to enter your life 
And never let self-respect slip away.

However, it's important to understand the distinction between arrogance and self-respect, because the line that separates the two is often fine and elusive.

Arrogance keeps a person from ever rising higher. 

It never lets one reach true heights.
One who is constantly preoccupied with himself - who always considers himself right and superior to others - ultimately closes the doors of his own growth and progress. His vision narrows, and he loses the possibility of true elevation.

On the other hand, self-respect never lets a person fall — because it preserves the balance between humility and dignity. It safeguards dignity while maintaining humility - preserving the inner balance that sustains integrity.

However, sometimes the distinction between arrogance and self-respect can be so subtle that it is difficult to recognize.
At times, we believe we are protecting our self-respect, while in reality, we are caught in arrogance.
And at other times, in the process of renouncing arrogance, we may also lose our self-respect — and inner strength.

Therefore, constant vigilance is required — to carefully discern the subtle difference between the two, and to choose wisely. 
Otherwise, we may either lose our self-respect while trying to abandon pride, or mistake arrogance for self-respect and unknowingly set foot on the path of downfall.

Stay away from arrogance, but always protect your self-respect.

         Arrogance never lets you rise.
         Self-respect never lets you fall.
         The line between the two is subtle —
         So choose with care 
         For in that balance lies true elevation and the dignity of life.

अभिमान आने न दो - स्वाभिमान जाने न दो

अभिमान को कभी आने मत दो  -  

        और स्वाभिमान को कभी जाने मत दो । 

लेकिन अभिमान और स्वाभिमान का भेद और इनके अंतर को समझना अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। 

अभिमान कभी व्यक्ति को ऊपर उठने नहीं देता - ऊँचाई तक पहुँचने नहीं देता। 

क्योंकि जो व्यक्ति हमेशा स्वयं में ही उलझा रहे - हमेशा स्वयं को ही सही और अपने आप को दूसरों से उत्तम मानता रहे तो उसके आगे बढ़ने और ऊपर उठने के रास्ते बंद हो जाते हैं। 

वहीं स्वाभिमान व्यक्ति को कभी गिरने नहीं देता — क्योंकि वह विनम्रता तथा आत्मसम्मान में संतुलन बनाए रखता है। 

लेकिन कई बार अभिमान और स्वाभिमान के बीच का अंतर इतना सूक्ष्म होता है कि उसे पहचान पाना सरल नहीं होता। 

कभी हम सोचते हैं कि हम स्वाभिमान की रक्षा कर रहे हैं - पर वास्तव में अभिमान से ग्रस्त हो जाते हैं। 

और कभी अभिमान त्यागने की प्रक्रिया में अपना स्वाभिमान भी खो बैठते हैं। 

इसलिए आवश्यक है कि हम निरंतर सजग रहें और इन दोनों के सूक्ष्म अंतर को बारीकी से समझकर सावधानीपूर्वक चुनने का प्रयत्न करें। 

कहीं ऐसा न हो कि हम अभिमान छोड़ते छोड़ते स्वाभिमान भी भी खो दें - 

या स्वाभिमान समझ कर वास्तव में अभिमान ग्रस्त हो जाएं और अनजाने में ही पतन के मार्ग पर चल पड़ें। 

अभिमान से दूर रहें, पर स्वाभिमान को हमेशा संभाले रखें। 

इनके संतुलन में ही सच्चा उत्थान और जीवन की गरिमा निहित है।

पारस कै संग परस के कंचन भई तलवार

                 पारस कै संग परस के कंचन भई तलवार
                  तुलसी तीनों न मिटे - धार मार आकार

राम चरित मानस के रचयिता संत तुलसी दास इस दोहे के माध्यम से अध्यात्मिक जीवन के एक कटु सत्य की ओर हमारा ध्यान आकर्षित करते हैं l
वह कहते हैं कि जैसे एक लोहे की तलवार पारस पत्थर का स्पर्श करके सोना तो बन जाती है लेकिन उसका आकार और गुण वैसे का वैसा ही रहता है l
उसकी तीक्ष्णता और कार्यप्रणाली पहले जैसी ही रहती है।
बेशक उसमें चमक तो आ जाती है और उसकी कीमत भी कई गुना बढ़ जाती है। वह दर्शनीय और प्रशंसनीय भी बन जाती है लेकिन न तो उसका आकार बदलता है - और न ही उसकी पैनी तीखी धार। और न ही उसका मार काट करने वाला गुण ही बदलता है l
भले ही वो तलवार अब सोने में बदल चुकी है लेकिन फिर भी यह किसी को घायल करने में सक्षम है और अगर कोई उसे दबाने अथवा उसके रास्ते में आने या बाधा बनने की कोशिश करे तो उसे काट भी सकती है।
(प्राचीन काल की गाथाओं में पारस पत्थर का ज़िक्र मिलता है। केवल भारत में ही नहीं बल्कि पश्चिमी देशों में भी ऐसी मान्यता थी कि कोई भी धातु पारस पत्थर के सम्पर्क में आते ही या उसे छूते ही सोने में परिवर्तित हो जाती है। ग्रीक माईथोलोजी और अरबी साहित्य में भी पारस और अमृतजल अथवा आबे ज़मज़म इत्यादि का ज़िक्र मिलता है।)

इस दोहे में तुलसी दास जी इस मान्यता का उदाहरण देते हुए कहते हैं कि जिस तरह पारस का स्पर्श करके एक लोहे की तलवार सोने में तो परिवर्तिति हो जाती है लेकिन उस का गुण और कर्म नहीं बदलता।
उसी तरह ज्ञान प्राप्ति के बाद सत्संग एवं संतों के सानिध्य से जीवन में सुख तथा यश और मान तो मिलने लगते हैं लेकिन इन्सान का स्वभाव आम तौर पर नहीं बदलता l
जिनके स्वभाव में पहले से ही विनम्रता हो वो हमेशा विनम्र ही बने रहते हैं l
लेकिन जिनके ह्रदय में स्वभाविक रुप से ही अभिमान और दम्भ हो -
जिन के मन में स्वयं को दर्शाने तथा लीडर शिप की भावना और इच्छा होती है, वो अध्यात्मिक क्षेत्रों में भी स्वयं को दर्शाने - दूसरों से आगे रहने और सब पर नियंत्रण रखने का यत्न करते रहते हैं।

तो क्या इसका अर्थ ये हुआ कि इन्सान का स्वभाव कभी नहीं बदल सकता ?

दूसरे दोहे में संत तुलसी दास जी कहते हैं कि एक उपाय है जिस से स्वभाव को बदला जा सकता है l
               "ज्ञान हथौड़ा जे मिले, सतगुरु मिले सुनार
                 तुलसी तीनों मिट गए धार मार आकार "
तलवार की धार और आकार को हथौड़े से बार बार चोट करके बदला जा सकता है l 

उसे स्वर्ण कलश, स्वर्ण आभूषण या स्वर्ण मूर्ति में रुपान्तरित करके उसके मार काट करने के गुण को भी बदला जा सकता है l
इसी तरह संतों के वचनों को बार बार सुनना और ज्ञान को बार बार अपने ह्रदय में दोहराना एक प्रकार से हथौड़े का काम करता है जिस से धीरे धीरे इंसान का गुण और स्वभाव बदलने लगता है।
लेकिन गुरु ज्ञान और संतों के वचनों की चोट कानों पर नहीं, ह्रदय पर पड़ेगी तभी स्वभाव बदलेगा .… अन्यथा नहीं।

By the touch of philosopher’s stone - Paaras sang paras kay

              Paaras kai sang paras kay Kanchan bhayi talvaar

               Tulasi teenon na mitay- Dhaar, Maar, Aakar 

“By the touch of the philosopher’s stone, the sword turns into gold.
But, says Tulsidas, its sharpness, its edge, and its form remain unchanged.”

Through this couplet, Sant Tulsidas—the revered composer of the Ramcharitmanas—brings forth a profound truth about spiritual life.

(This example is drawn from an old belief found in many ancient legends - not only in Indian traditions but also in Western legends, Greek mythology, and Arabic literature—that any metal that came in contact with Paras or the philosopher’s stone would turn into gold. 

Greek mythology and Arabic literature also talk about the miraculous waters like Aab-e-Zamzam.)

By using this analogy as an illustration, Sant Tulsidas says:
An iron sword, when touched by the philosopher’s stone, transforms into gold, but its form and qualities do not change.
Despite this transformation, its original form and qualities - its sharpness and functionality remain the same.

Of course, it becomes brighter, its value multiplies, and it becomes attractive and admirable.
But its form does not change—nor does its razor-sharp edge, nor its destructive quality.
Even though it is now gold, it still has the capacity to wound. 

It retains the potential to injure anyone who crosses its path.
If anyone tries to press it down, obstruct it, or stand in its way, it can still cut through.
It is still a sword, with the same sharp edge, the same cutting power, and the same destructive ability.

Similarly, when a person gains knowledge, attains Gyana, comes in contact with satsang and the holy company of saints, their life may become brighter. 

They may gain honor, respect, fame, and success.
But a person’s innate nature rarely changes.
Those who are naturally humble remain humble.
And those who are filled with pride and arrogance continue to display the same tendencies, even in spiritual circles.
Those who have an inherent desire to lead and display themselves continue to seek recognition even in spiritual realms. They always strive to stay ahead of others and control everything around them.

This raises a question:
Does human nature never change?

In the next couplet, Saint Tulsidas gives a solution:

                 Gyan Hathauda jehi milay - Satguru milay Sunaar

                    Tulasi teenon mit gaye - Dhaar, Maar, Aakar 

“With the hammer of wisdom and the guidance of a true Guru,
The sharpness, the edge, and the form of the sword can all be reshaped.”

A sword’s edge and form can be changed by repeated hammering.
It can be reshaped into a golden pot, golden jewelry, or a golden sculpture.
The constant striking of the hammer not only transforms its form and appearance but also its destructive qualities.

Similarly, listening to the words of saints repeatedly, reflecting upon them deeply, and allowing wisdom to penetrate the heart, works like the hammer that slowly reshapes human nature. 

But the change will come only if the blows of knowledge strike the heart, not just the ears.

The transformation can happen only if the words of wisdom do not merely fall upon the ears but strike deeply into the heart - 
Otherwise, no real transformation takes place.

Note:

Interestingly, it's called the Philosopher's stone - meaning it's a philosophical metaphor rather than a physical reality.

Hidden Balance of Invisible Life

After we withdraw money from our bank account, we are shown the remaining balance.

When we use a credit card, we are informed of our available spending limit—how much more we can spend before reaching the limit.

All financial transactions come with a statement, a record, and a clear limit.

But time — the most precious currency of all — is different. 

Time is the only currency we spend without ever knowing our balance.

We spend it every single moment, yet no statement is ever shown.

It is silently deducted every moment, yet no balance is ever revealed. 

We are never told how much time is left in our life's account. 

There is no statement, no alert, no reminder of the remaining balance.

We never truly know how much time is left in our account of life.

This is what makes time the most valuable and fragile - far more valuable than money.

Because, unlike money, time can never be earned back, borrowed, or replaced.

However, while we do not know our remaining balance, we do know one thing:

 ' The account is not infinite. '

And once the balance reaches zero, no extension is granted.

Therefore, we must spend it wisely and mindfully — on things that matter, on people who matter, and on actions that bring meaning.

The time that has passed is gone forever. 

It is more important now to see how we choose to spend the unseen remaining balance and make our lives worthwhile.

जीवन का अदृश्य खाता

जब हम अपने बैंक खाते में से कुछ धनराशि निकालते हैं, तो हमें बता दिया जाता है कि हमारे खाते में कितना बकाया है - कितना बाकी बचा है।                        

जब हम क्रेडिट कार्ड का उपयोग करते हैं, तो हमें हमारे उपलब्ध खर्च की सीमा बता दी जाती है — कि सीमा तक पहुँचने से पहले हम और कितना खर्च कर सकते हैं।

हर आर्थिक लेन-देन के साथ एक विवरण, एक रसीद, और एक स्पष्ट सीमा होती है।

परन्तु समय — जो सबसे कीमती मुद्रा है — इस से अलग है। 

समय ही एकमात्र ऐसी मुद्रा है जिसे हम बिना अपने शेष को जाने लगातार खर्च करते रहते हैं। 

हम इसे हर क्षण खर्च तो करते हैं, लेकिन इसका कोई विवरण हमें नहीं दिया जाता।

यह हर पल चुपचाप कटता रहता है, परन्तु जो बाकी बचा है - उसके बारे में कभी पता नहीं चलता।

न कोई विवरण, न चेतावनी, न ही शेष बचे समय की जानकारी।

हम वास्तव में कभी नहीं जान पाते कि हमारे जीवन के खाते में कितना समय बाकी बचा है। 

यही कारण है कि समय सबसे नाजुक और सबसे अधिक मूल्यवान मुद्रा मानी जाती है — धन से भी कहीं अधिक।

क्योंकि धन की तरह - समय को न तो दोबारा कमाया जा  सकता है 

न उधार लिया जा सकता है, और न ही आगे के लिए संभाल के रखा जा सकता है।     

        

फिर भी, एक बात तो निश्चित है: - 

कि यह खाता अनंत नहीं है।  

और जब यह शून्य पर पहुँच जाता है, तो इसकी अवधि बढ़ाई नहीं जा सकती। 

इसलिए अपने समय को हमेशा समझदारी और सजगता से खर्च करना चाहिए —

उन बातों पर जो वास्तव में महत्वपूर्ण हैं  

उन लोगों पर जो वास्तव में हमारे लिए महत्वपूर्ण हैं 

और उन कर्मों पर जो जीवन को अर्थ देते हैं। 

जो समय बीत चुका है, वह तो सदा के लिए जा चुका है।

अब तो इस बात का महत्व है कि हम अपने शेष बचे हुए अदृश्य समय को कैसे खर्च करें ताकि अपने जीवन को सार्थक बना सकें।

शुभ शिक्षक दिवस

  

         एक अच्छे शिक्षक का प्रभाव कभी मिटाया नहीं जा सकता

पहले तो एक प्रेरणादायक शिक्षक का मिलना ही कठिन होता है 

और अगर मिल जाए तो उनसे अलग होना और भी कठिन है - 

और उन्हें भुला पाना तो असंभव है।

क्योंकि शिक्षक अपने विद्यार्थियों पर सीधा प्रभाव डालते हैं। 

शिक्षक व्यक्ति, समाज और राष्ट्र का चरित्र निर्माण करते हैं।

शिक्षक वह दीपक है, जो स्वयं जलकर दूसरों को प्रकाश देता है।

वे विद्यार्थियों को शिक्षित करने, शिक्षा के लिए प्रेरित करने और हमेशा उनके जीवन में सकारात्मक परिवर्तन लाने के लिए प्रयासरत रहते हैं।

वैसे तो विद्यालय के पहले दिन से लेकर शिक्षण के अंत तक हम अनेक शिक्षकों से पढ़ते और सीखते हैं।

परंतु कुछ शिक्षक ही ऐसे होते हैं जो जीवनभर हमारी स्मृतियों में बने रहते हैं।

क्योंकि वे हमारी प्रगति में व्यक्तिगत रुचि और जिम्मेदारी निभाते हैं।

वे अपने विद्यार्थियों का हाथ थामते हैं, उनका मस्तिष्क खोलते हैं और उनके हृदय को छूते हैं। 

ऐसे हृदयस्पर्शी शिक्षक सदा के लिए विद्यार्थियों के आदर्श बन जाते हैं। 

इसी कारण, प्राचीन भारतीय परंपराओं में शिक्षक अथवा गुरु को समाज द्वारा सर्वोच्च सम्मान और आदर प्रदान किया गया है।

        गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः  

        गुरु: साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः।।

भारतीय सनातन संस्कृति में माता, पिता और गुरु को देवी एवं देवता का स्थान दिया गया है।

                " मातृदेवो भव - पितृदेवो भव - गुरुर्देवो भव "

महान गुरु और श्रेष्ठ शिक्षक केवल पढ़ाते ही नहीं हैं - वे अपने शिष्यों और विद्यार्थियों के मन में ज्ञान के ऐसे बीज बोते हैं जो जीवनभर बने रहते हैं - और पनपते रहते हैं।

वे हर कदम पर शिष्यों का मार्गदर्शन और सहयोग करते हैं, ताकि वे विषय को पूर्ण रुप से समझ सकें और ऐसी ऊँचाइयों तक पहुँच सकें जिसकी आकाश ही सीमा है। 

      एक महान शिक्षक - एक महान गुरु का मिलना सौभाग्य की बात है 

ऐसा गुरु जो आपके जीवन के हर चरण पर स्वयं व्यक्तिगत रुप से आपका मार्गदर्शन करे - 

आपके हर प्रश्न का उत्तर दे और आपके सभी संदेहों को दूर करे। 

एक कुशल और अनुभवी शिक्षक अथवा गुरु कभी भी यह नहीं कहेगा कि प्रश्न पूछना बंद करो, चुप रहो या बिना किसी संदेह और उज्र के उनकी हर बात को मान लो। अच्छे शिक्षक हमेशा आपको तब तक प्रश्न पूछने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करेंगे जब तक कि आप पूरी तरह संतुष्ट न हो जाएँ। 

क्योंकि सच्चे ज्ञानी शिक्षक और गुरु केवल रटा रटाया ज्ञान नहीं देते बल्कि आपको स्वयं सोचने और आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करते हैं। वे आपको ज्ञान चक्षु खोल कर अपने मार्ग पर अग्रसर होने की प्रेरणा देते हैं।

महान गुरु और अच्छे शिक्षक अपने विद्यार्थियों को अपने जैसा ही ज्ञानवान बनने - बल्कि अपने से भी श्रेष्ठ बनने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं। 

सच्चे गुरु या शिक्षक अपने विद्यार्थियों से कभी ईर्ष्या नहीं करते।

बल्कि यदि कोई विद्यार्थी उनसे आगे भी बढ़ जाएँ तो वे उन पर गर्व ही करते हैं। 

यजुर्वेद का एक मंत्र - जो तैत्तिरीय, माण्डूक्य और श्वेताश्वतर उपनिषदों में भी मिलता है - एक प्रार्थना के रुप में गुरु और शिष्य के बीच सुंदर संबंध का वर्णन करता है। 

              **ॐ सह नाववतु - सह नौ भुनक्तु - सह वीर्यं करवावहै  

                               तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै  

                                   ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः**  

अर्थ:

हे परमब्रह्म! हमें (गुरु और शिष्य दोनों को) साथ-साथ सुरक्षित रखें;

हम दोनों का साथ-साथ पोषण करें;

हम साथ मिलकर साहस एवं पराक्रम के साथ हर कार्य करें;

हमारा ज्ञान एवं सोच उज्ज्वल और फलदायी हो।

हम दोनों - गुरु और शिष्य कभी एक-दूसरे से ईर्ष्या न करें।

पूरी दुनिया में लाखों लोग इस दिन को अलग-अलग तरीकों से मनाकर शिक्षकों का सम्मान करते हैं।

किन्तु उनके प्रति सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि यही है कि हम उनके ज्ञान और उपदेशों को सीखें, समझें और अपने जीवन में आत्मसात करें।

और शिक्षकों के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण यह है कि वे विद्यार्थियों को हमेशा सीखते ही रहने के लिए प्रेरित करें - आगे से आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करें। 

मेरे सौभाग्य है कि मुझे जीवन में कुछ ऐसे महान शिक्षक और गुरु मिले, जिन्होंने न केवल मेरे सामाजिक और पेशेवर जीवन में, बल्कि जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में मेरा मार्गदर्शन किया।

उन्होंने मेरे दृष्टिकोण को विस्तृत किया, संकीर्ण मानसिकता की दीवारें तोड़ीं, सीमित सोच से बाहर निकलने में मदद की, और मुझे उदार, विशाल दृष्टिकोण रखने और सार्वभौमिक रुप से सोचने के लिए प्रेरित किया।

मेरे उन सभी शिक्षकों और गुरुओं को मेरा नमन और आभार, जिन्होंने मुझे आज जो कुछ भी मैं हूँ - वह बनने में मेरी सहायता की।

आइए - हम उन सभी शिक्षकों और गुरुओं के योगदान की सराहना करें - उनके प्रति कृतज्ञता का भाव समर्पित करें जो हमारे भविष्य का निर्माण करते हैं।

Happy Teacher's Day

                                    The influence of a good teacher can never be erased

An awe-inspiring teacher is hard to find, difficult to part with, and impossible to forget.

Teachers have a direct impact on their students. They love educating students.

They strive to educate - inspire the students to learn more and to induce positive changes in their lives. 

From the first day of school to the end of our academic education, we all learn from many different teachers.

However, there are just a few who cling to our memory for the rest of our lives.

Because they take personal interest and responsibility for our progress.

Teachers help build the characteristics of an individual, a society, and a nation.

The teacher is a candle that burns itself and gives light to others.

They take the hands of the students, open their minds, and touch their hearts.

Such heartful teachers become role models for the students.

That is why, in ancient Indian traditions, the teacher or the Guru was given the utmost respect and highest honor by society.

Mother, Father, and the Guru were given the status of God ij Indian cultures.

                   "Matri Devo Bhavah - Pitri Devo Bhavah - Gurur Devo Bhavah"

The great Gurus - the good teachers do not simply teach -

They plant the seeds of knowledge in the minds of their disciples and students that last a lifetime.

They guide and support the disciples personally at every step to understand - to apprehend the subject thoroughly and inspire them to improve and rise to such heights where the sky is the limit.

Find a great teacher - a Guru - who will help you personally - by guiding you at each step of your life on a personal level - answering all your questions and removing any doubts that you might have.

A proficient and experienced teacher will never tell you to stop asking questions, to stay quiet or be withdrawn, and believe every word without any doubt whatsoever.

Good teachers will always encourage you to ask questions until you are fully satisfied.

Because the teachers who are indeed wise do not advise you to simply enter the house of their wisdom. 

They lead you to the threshold of your own mind.

Great Gurus and Good teachers encourage their students to become as knowledgeable as, or even better than, them.

Real Gurus or Good teachers never become jealous of their students.

In fact, they feel proud of their students if they rise and become even better than the teachers.

There is a beautiful prayer in Yajur Veda - also found in Taittarey, Mandukya, and Shvetashvatara Upanishads - which explains the beautiful relationship between the Guru and the Shishya - the teacher and the disciple.

It says:

                  ॐ सह नाववतु - सह नौ भुनक्तु - सह वीर्यं करवावहै

                                 तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै

                                     ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः

           Om Seh Nau-Avatu Seh Nau Bhunaktu

                     Seh Veeryam Karavaavahai

      Tejasvi Naav-Adhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvishaavahai

Meaning: May the Brahman (Almighty Lord) protect us both (Teacher & Disciple);

May He nourish us both;

May we both work in harmony with great vigor;

May our study be illuminating and fruitful.

May we - Guru and Shishya - the teacher and disciple - never be jealous of each other.

Millions of people all over the world acknowledge and honor this day by celebrating it in different ways. However, the greatest tribute to them would be to learn, understand, and adapt their teachings in our lives.

And the most important thing for teachers is that they should engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.

I was fortunate to have a few such great teachers in my life, who not only helped me in my professional career as a teacher, but helped me in every sphere of my life, to broaden my horizons, to remove the walls of narrowmindedness, to get out of the limited, confined space, and become open and broad-minded and think universally.

Ye Kaliyug hai Janaab 

Jhooth chahay dheeray say hee kaho
           to bhi sab sun lengay

Aur Sach agar chilla chilla kay bhi kaho
to bhi koyi sunanay waala nahin milega.

Such is the age we live in, my friends —
Whisper a lie, and it will echo everywhere.
Gossip, even when spoken softly, spreads swiftly among the masses.

But the truth, no matter how loudly it is proclaimed - 
hardly finds anyone willing to listen.

ख़ामोशी ही बेहतर है - Khamoshi hee behtar hai - Silence is Better

आज सच कोई सुनने को तैयार कहां है 

ख़ामोशी ही बेहतर है इस दौर में 'राजन'
